I can explain the effect of multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. Explain how you multiply 36x10=, 72x100=, 57x1000= Explain how you divide 55 by 10, 67 by 100 and 33 by 1000. 36x10=360 72x100=7200 55 10=5.5 67 100=0.67 Explain how you multiply 4.5 by 10, by 100 or x 1000. Explain how you divide 45 by 10, 100 and 1000. 4.5x10=45 4.5x100=450 4.5x1000=4500 45 10=4.5 45 100=0.45 45 1000=0.045 (Please make sure your child talks about moving the digits one, two or three places to the left or right.) 0.437km=_m 0.437km=437m (1000m=1km) 8.2litres=_ml 8.2litres=8200ml (1000ml=1litre)

I can recognise and use number patterns and relationships. Answer these questions and write any remainders as a whole number remainder, as a fraction and as a decimal 73 2= Leroy saved 25.50. For one day only Record World are selling all CDs for 6. How many CDs can Leroy buy? 73 2= 36 r 1 36 ½ 36.5 4 The gardeners at Park Madrid have to plant 8 flowerbeds. Each flowerbed must contain the same number of flowers. If there are 275 flowers, how many flowers will be in each flowerbed? 275 8=34.375 =34 flower beds

Can you write 6/8 in it s simplest ¾ form? I can reduce fractions to their simplest form and order them. Order these fractions from smallest to largest, 3/5, 8/10, ½. ½, 3/5,8/10 Convert all the fractions to tenths to help with this. 12/20=?/5 3/5 Reduce these fractions to their simplest form: 12/14 6/36 24/30 12/14=6/7 6/36=1/6 24/30=4/5 What is 3/5 in tenths? 0.6

I can convert fractions into tenths or hundredths and show them as decimals and percentages. 6/100 can you write this as a decimal number? 3/5 is the same as 6/10 can you write this as a decimal number? 0.06. The six goes in the hundredths column. 0.6 The six goes in the tenths column 6/10 is the same as 60/100 so what percentage is this? 60% Write each of these percentages as a fraction and as a decimal. Remember to reduce each fraction to its simplest form: 43% 43% = 43/100 =0.43 24% 24%=24/100=12/50=6 /25=0.24 8% 8%=8/100=2/25=0.08

I can calculate simple fractions or percentages of a number. What is ¼ of 100? What is ½ of 54? What is ¾ of 120? What is 3/10 of 30? 25 27 90 9 What is 30% of 50? 15 What is 25 percent of 44? 11 Divide by the denominator (the bottom number in the fraction) and times by the numerator (the top number in the fraction.) For the percentages find 10% of the number first (divide the number by 10) and then multiply by how many times bigger the number is e.g. 30% of 60 Divide 60 by 10 to get 10% then times 6 by 3 to get 30%.

What is the inverse of 35x10=? I can use the inverse operation to solve problems and check calculations 121 divided by 11, what is the inverse of this? 35x10=350 therefore 350 10=35 11x11=121. 77+54= what is the inverse of this sum? 77+54=131 therefore 131-77=54, 131-54=77. (The inverse is the opposite operation e.g. the opposite of multiply is divide and the opposite of add is subtract.) 50 _ = 2.5 20 Write in the missing digit; _92 14 = 28 392 Write in the missing digits; _4_ x 6 = 2052 342 Write in the missing digit _7 x 9 = 333 37

(35x6)+22= (35x6)+22= 210+22=232 I can solve a number problem using operations in the correct order, including 6x(55+55)= 6x(55+55)= 6x 110=660 (Remember to do what is in the brackets first.) brackets. 3²+ (9-4) = 3² + 5 = 9+5 = 14 7x(6-4)² = 7 x (2)²= 7x4 = 28

I can solve simple problems involving ordering, adding, subtracting negative numbers in context. -7+-3= -7- -4= Put these numbers in order smallest to largest -7, -8, 3, -2, 6..-10-3 (A negative and negative becomes a positive). 3. -8,-7,-2,3,6 Put these numbers in order largest to smallest 9, -7,-9, -10,10 10, 9,-7,-9, -10

I can solve simple problems involving ratio and direct proportion. If a goal keeper let in 4 balls to every one he saved, how many balls did he let in if he saved 3 goals? Mari is the presenter of a weekly radio show, she plays 5 new songs for every 2 old songs, last week she played 15 new songs, how many songs did she play altogether? 4x3=12 12 5 new 2 old 10 new 4 old 15 new 6 old Altogether 21 Sapna and Robbie have some biscuits. Altogether they have 14 biscuits has 2 more biscuits than Robbie. How many biscuits do Sapna and Robbie each have? Sapna 8 Robbie 6

1 to 72 is the same as 2 to? I can use multiplication to solve ratio problems. 1 to 72 is the same as 2 to 144.( 2 is double the 1 so you need to double the 72) 3 to 4 is the same as to 12? 3 to 4 is the same as 9 to 12. (12 is 3 times 4 so you need to make 3, 3 times bigger.) Peanuts cost 60p for 100g what is the cost of 350g of peanuts? 60px3= 1.80 ½ of 60p is 30p 1.80 + 30p 2.10 David and hid friends prepare a picnic, each person at the picnic will get 3 sandwiches, 2 bananas, 1 packet of crisps. The children pack 45 sandwiches, how many bananas do they pack? 45 3=15 15x2=30

I can use approximation to check my answer is sensible. Use approximation first to work out 475+212= Approximation is 500+200= 700. 475+212=687 therefore 687 is near to 700. 255x4= Approximation 250x4=1000 255x4=1020 therefore 1000 is close to 1020.

345-43=302 302+43=345 I can use the inverse operation to solve problems and check calculations 35x4=140 140 4=35 Or 140 35=4 (The inverse is the opposite operation e.g. the opposite of multiply is divide and the opposite of add is subtract.)
