Nutcracker Tales Nutcracker dolls originated in Germany in the late 17th century when they were often given as gifts at Christmas time. Legend tells us that a nutcracker represents power and strength and serves like a trusty watch dog guarding your family. A fierce protector, the nutcracker bares his teeth to scare off danger and is seen as the traditional messenger of good luck and goodwill. There are lots of versions of the Nutcracker story and here s our version: On Christmas Eve many, many years ago, a little girl called Clara was given a very special gift a beautiful wooden Nutcracker, carved in the shape of a little soldier. She was delighted with her gift, but little did she know that her Nutcracker soldier was in fact magical! That night when everyone was asleep, Clara crept downstairs to check under the Christmas tree for her new toy and at the stroke of midnight something extraordinary happened. The Christmas tree began to grow taller and taller and through the twinkling dust of midnight magic, an enchanted forest appeared and all the toys came to life! But that wasn t all... A battle was underway in this magical landscape between the toys and an army of naughty mice. Bravely leading the toy army was Clara s very own Nutcracker soldier, transformed into a Nutcracker King. With Clara s help, the Nutcracker King defeated the Mouse King s army. The adventure didn t stop there though. The Nutcracker King took Clara to the beautiful Land of Sweets which was ruled over by the Sugar Plum Fairy and there they all celebrated the toys victory. When Clara woke on Christmas morning, she wondered if it had all been a dream, she opened her bedroom curtains and outside on the snow covered streets there was a boy who looked very familiar...
