Party with Patrick Lovebirds 12 x 18 wall hanging Instructions 1. Refer to the cutting page for cutting instructions. 2. Trace the templates onto the paper side of your fusible adhesive leaving approximately ½" between tracings. 3. Roughly cut the templates from the adhesive just outside of the traced line. 4. Place the adhesive templates onto the wrong side of their corresponding appliqué fabrics and fuse in place according to manufacturer s instructions. 5. Neatly cut the appliqués from the fabrics on the traced template lines. 6. Peel the paper backing from the appliqués and arrange birds, tree limb, large flowers, small flower, leaves, and heart on the 12 x 13¼" dark blue curved top background piece. Fuse one large flower on the 3½ x 4¼" light blue background rectangle, make two. Fuse heart on 3½ x 4½" medium blue background rectangle. 7. Place the Sulky Tear-Easy stabilizer behind the appliqué sections and blanket stitch the raw edges of the appliqués, using Sulky Premium 40 wt rayon thread. We used variegated colors. Remove the stabilizer after stitching. If you perfer, finish edges by hand using perle cotton and a blanket stitch. 8. Piece the three applique blocks, as shown on the cutting and piecing page. 9. Sandwich batting between top and backing with wrong sides of fabrics against batting. Quilt as desired. My friend Jessica Gamez quilted this piece using a straight stitch, in matching thread, around each appliqué and next to binding. She quilted the sky background using an all-over curlycue design. In the bottom section of the background, she quilted with a repeating heart motif. 9. Trim backing and batting even with edges of the quilt. Embellish: Sew buttons to the center of each flower. Using yellow perle cotton thread and a single stitch for each line, stitch bird beaks and legs. Use the blue perle cotton for the birds tails. For their eyes, make french knots with black perle cotton thread. 10. Hem straight edge of hanging pocket piece as instructed on template page. Place hanging pocket on back of quilt (wrong side of hanging pocket on quilt backing) matching the curve and side edges and stitch in place. 11. Bind as usual, using the 2¼" strips cut from the bias binding fabric. Visit www.patricklose.com
