CHASING MOON MEET FILMAKER Friday, May 3 at 6:30pm at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center Fifty years ago in July, the hard work of NASA engineers and rocket scientists in Alabama was celebrated around the world as Neil Armstrong stepped onto the surface of the moon and announced a giant leap for mankind. Filmmaker Robert Stone tells the story of the race to the moon in a new six-hour, three-part AMERICAN EXPERIENCE documentary, Chasing the Moon, coming to APT in July. In partnership with the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and public radio station WLRH, APT is bringing the filmmaker to Huntsville on Friday, May3, to share a preview of his film and participate in a panel discussion about the moon program. Chasing the Moon re-examines the race to the moon for a new generation, upending much of the mythology surrounding the effort. The miniseries recasts the Space Age as a complex stew of scientific innovation, political calculation, media spectacle, visionary impulses and personal drama. This film tells a familiar story and an entirely new way, says Mark Samels, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE executive producer. This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Arrive early!
