Amy was a secretary and George was the office boy. Then the war started and George went into the army. Amy didn t see him again for the next fifteen years. 2 Before the war finished, Amy s parents went to live in another part of the country and Amy went with them. She wrote letters to George but she didn t get any letters from him. She was very sad and she thought he didn t love her any more. But Amy was wrong. George wrote to Amy every week but his letters went to the wrong address. George thought Amy wasn t interested in him. When the war ended, George looked for Amy at his old office but she wasn t there. 2

3 The war ended in 1945 and in 1946 George went to university to become a doctor. But he didn t forget Amy. He still loved her. He put advertisements in newspapers and shops in different towns but he didn t find her. 4 Finally, George became a doctor. He went to work in a small town in the north of the country. One day a nurse telephoned from the hospital. Hello, she said. Can I speak to the doctor? George was very excited because he knew the voice. It was Amy. 3
