WHY MUCLAA? MISSION STATEMENT MUCLAA s mission is to trigger the fusion between art, history, and contemporary society as a catalyst experience of change that will sustain, enhance and advance the well-being of the Arévalo region in Spain. VISION STATEMENT As a laboratory of experiences, MUCLAA envisions a society of revitalized communities where all people local residents and visitors alike are inspired by the transformational power of 21 st century art to shape the understanding of ourselves and to improve our collective quality of life. BACKGROUND / HISTORY (THE EXTENDED EXPERIENCE) MUCLAA will be located in the city of Arévalo, in the extraordinary region of Castilla y León in central Spain, near the ancient cities of Salamanca, Ávila, Valladolid, and Segovia. The museum is one hour from Madrid and close to important world-class centers of art, vineyards, and commerce. MUCLAA will serve as axis from which Arévalo dialogues with the world. This region has a strong cultural and architectural heritage. The city flourished in the 12 th century under Alfonso X el Sabio as a shining example of a multicultural and educated society, where followers of Catholicism, Judaism, and Islam lived for centuries in peaceful existence. Arévalo is the city where Queen Isabel of Castille spent her youth and where San Ignacio de Loyola received his education. He later founded the famous Colegio de los Jesuitas. Furthermore, the restoration of this historic building school is an important part of MUCLAA s identity. Arévalo is rooted in its rich local culture and traditions and in the hearts of its people. The region s singular identity can be found in its Romanic and Mudejar architecture and in a cuisine that reflects a unique gastronomic patrimony. It is an ideal environment for MUCLAA to capture the transformative power of radical contemporary art to revitalize the local economy through employment and professional opportunities, celebrating and sustaining the city s cultural and intellectual life.

Specific projects include: Rehabilitation of existing structures into exhibition areas, an auditorium, lobby, educational services and research archives. Redevelopment of the Jesuit School with classroom and workshop spaces, as well as for scholarship, administration, and artist in residence use. Facade of Saint Nicolas Church (integral to the MUCLAA main building). The church is currently being restored with the support of the Government Junta de Castilla y León, with a total funding of approximately 400,000 Euros. Additional projects align with the Acuerdo Marco or Extended Cooperation Agreement with the City of Arévalo and the Junta de Castilla y Leon (the regional government), as well as with national governmental agencies and leaders.
REGIONAL ALLIANCES & PARTNERSHIPS The Adrastus Collection is a premier collection of the best in radical contemporary art. MUCLAA is establishing a partnership with the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC) as the initial step toward the mission to catalyse and celebrate the region s contemporary arts community. To further support this mission, MUCLAA has established an agreement with the Consejo de Fábrica, to utilize the facilities of Saint Martin s historic building built on the 11 th century, close to the museum to raise awareness, interest, and support for this major initiative as part of its initial community outreach program. A temporary exhibit will be installed including scale models of the MUCLAA complex, video and slide projections from the collection, and art pieces on temporary loan. MUCLAA is also collaborating with the Junta de Castilla y León, The Ministry of Education and Culture, and other Arévalo region governmental agencies to identify specific community needs that can be best served by the museum s programming. Opportunities will highlight the region s heritage and patrimony, including its vineyards, locally resourced agriculture, and local arts and crafts. MUCLAA has established a strong network with some of the world s most prestigious and influential museums and art galleries. These partnerships will help establish a grants program to support the creation of new work by visionary artists from the 21 st century and to commission original art pieces through residencies at MUCLAA s laboratories.

We ambition to create a platform that gives visibility to those voices which are always far from the market s microphones. The Fundación Lumbreras - Colección Adrastus is providing initial financing and facilitating all legal counsel, public partnerships, and declarations of support. The Foundation is also establishing a Board of Trustees comprising dedicated individuals, including local government representatives and international art experts, who will help accomplish MUCLAA as a pre-eminent 21 st century museum and cultural/social center.
