Edith Whitney PTA Newsletter January, 2014 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Lynn Mendise and Mary Smith We hope everyone had a safe and happy winter break. We know our kids sure enjoyed the extra two days of vacation! Hopefully, you were warm during those very cold days. December was a busy month for the PTA. We had our Holiday Shop open the week of the 9 th. A HUGE Thank You to all volunteers that helped with the shop. Having all the helping hands made our shop a success and a wonderful experience for all the children that participated. Did you know that the Holiday Shop is not a fundraiser? Our goal is to offer the kids great products at a reasonable price. To keep the prices low, we do not make a profit. Abilities Awareness week was the week of December 2 nd. The kids had a chance to experience what it would be like to have a disability and try to do everyday tasks. Thank you to the volunteers who helped man the stations during gym class. We hope the kids came away with an appreciation for those who may do things a bit different than normal. Whitney PTA was awarded a Grant from the Strongsville PTA Council. This year we requested funds for a sliding board to replace the damaged slide that is no longer on the playground. PTA Council was gracious enough to grant our request and the new slide will be installed in the Spring. We know the kids will be excited to have the slide back. We would like to thank the volunteers who helped make Movie Night possible. This year the movie was Despicible Me 2! What a fun movie! Fun was had by all who attended. Don t forget to check out our Facebook page: Whitney Elementary PTA. We try to keep it up to date with current events and reminders. It s a great way to ask a quick question or to find out what is going on at Whitney. Looking forward, we have a busy couple months. Bingo Night, Skate Night, Carnival, Wing Ding and the Spring Book fair are all coming up. Be sure to save the dates, and considering volunteering to help. It s a great way to get involved.
