386. RUSSELL CONWELL BAROUR ENNIX 1944-1996. Russell Conwell Barbour Enix was born 23 October 1944 in Nashville, Tennessee, the youngest of three (3) sons of the Attorney Coyness Ennix and Blanche Ennix. predeceased him several years ago. His father Russell spent his early years in Nashville, and was educated in the public schools of this City; graduating from Pear i High School in 1962. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Fisk University in 1966, Russell attended Harvard University School of Law before transferring to Vanderbilt University School of Law where he recei ved the Juris Doctor degree from this insti tution in 1970. He was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1971. Upon graduation from Vanderbilt, Russell joined the law firm of the renowned civil rights attorney, Avon N. Williams, as an associate. Here, Russell had the distinction of participating in school desegregation and employment discrimination cases that changed the socialeconomic and political landscape of Nashville forever. 387 Russell In 1992, several years after his father's death, became partner in the law firm of Petway, Blackshear, Cain & Ennix, where. he engaged in the general practice of law with an emphasis in probate and estates. Russell's many interests and civic concerns led him to acti vely serve on many boards, some of which are the American Baptist College òf the American ~aptist Theological Seminary; General Counsel, General Alumni '''./.. Associates of Fisk L Uni versi ty; mental Heal th Association of Nashville; Nashville Bar Association; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; Chi Boule' of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity; Tennessee and Nashville Bar Associations; the Napier-Looby Bar Associatidn, and the Tennessee Codes Commission. In 1979, Russell married Fanchetter Renee Darden, and to that union two daughters were born, Bianca and Brittany. Russell was a religious person, having given his time and service as member and Deacon of First Baptist Church, Capi tol Hill. Among his many accomplishments, Russell served on the Board of the Ennix-Jones Center of this Church. His colleagues remember Russell as a giving and caring person, who served as a source of inspiration to all with whom he had contact. He was a credit to his profession and his country. To the marriage was born two daughters, Bianca and Brittany Ennix. Upon his admission to the Tennessee Bar in 1971, Russell entered the private practice of law as associate in the law firm of Avon N. Williams. He later resigned and joined his father in the practice of law under the firm name of Ennix and Ennix until his father's death. Several years later he joined the firm of Petway, Blackshear, Cain & Ennix where he variously served as partner and "Of Counsel" until his illness that eventually culminated in his demise. 390, He was a powerfully energetic and refreshingly provocative man. Russell's enthusiastic and loving approach to people and life bestowed a legacy of excellence with everyone who came in contact with him. He devoted his life to his family, to his profession and to his country. He died on 5 August 1996, and he will be sorely missed.
