pg.2 1. Remove the Body Panels and the Brace Fins from the parts tree. File the sprue locations smooth. Brace Fin Body Panel 2. Insert the Brace Fins into the slots in the Body Panels. They should fit tightly and may require some significant pressure to be fully seated. Place the first Brace Fin in a corner location and then add the other Body Panel to that Fin. Once the first Fin is done you can insert the rest of the Fins into both Body Panels at once. Do the corners first and then do the inner angled Brace Fins. DO NOT GLUE the Brace Fins yet. Press the ends against your work surface to make sure they are fully seated and level with the Body Panel edges. TIPS FOR WORKING WITH WHITE GLUE or WOOD GLUE: - Use a scrap of cardboard to hold a dollop of glue for working with. - Put out more glue than you think you will need. You don t want - to run out in the middle of a step - it dries quickly! - Replace your glue dollop as soon as it begins to skin over. - Keep a cup of water handy to clean the glue brush between steps. - Use the water to thin the glue as needed. Top Plate 3. Remove the Top and Bottom Plates from the parts tree and file the sprue locations smooth. 4. Apply glue to the top Brace Fin surfaces and install the Top Plate. Repeat for the Bottom Plate. 5. Apply glue to the seams along the Top & Bottom Plates inside the structure. You can do this using a small brush. 6. Lie the structure down so it is resting on all of the points on one side. Use a small weight to hold it squarely while the glue dries - about 20 minutes. This weight is 3.8oz to inside All points sitting on a flat surface USE WEIGHTS TO HOLD ASSEMBLY SQUARE FOR 20 MINUTES Bottom Plate
pg.3 7. Remove the Resting Pads from the parts tree and file the sprue locations smooth. 8. Apply glue within the outlines that mark the Resting Pad locations and install the Resting Pads. 9. Now you can glue all of the Brace Fins in place by painting a thin bead of glue along the seams on the inside of the structure. Thin the glue slightly so that it penetrates the joints. This will ensure that your load is nice and strong. Resting Pads Apply glue to inside edges of Fins 10. Remove the Bolt Plates from the parts tree. File the sprue locations smooth. 11. Apply glue to the edges of the Fins and structure where one of the Bolt Plates will be attached. With your structure oriented as shown on the right, lay your Bolt Plate on the table and tip it up into the glue, against the structure. Adjust horizontally if needed. Flip the structure over and apply the second Bolt Plate on the same end. Rotate the structure so that it is sitting on the faces of the 2 Bolt Plates and place weights on the other end. Allow to dry for about 15 minutes. Repeat for the remaining 2 bolt plates. Glue On Edges Bolt Plate USE WEIGHTS TO HOLD THE ASSEMBLY FOR 15 MINUTES
pg.4 12. Remove the End Panel pieces from the parts tree. File the sprue locations smooth. 13. Insert the bottom of an End Panel into the intersection of the angled Brace Fin and the Bolt Plate. Gently push the End Panel into the space so that it snaps in behind the top Bolt Plate. Wiggle to seat evenly. Repeat for the other End Panel. Glue in place along the backside of the seams with a brush inserted through the center hole of the structure. insert Brace Fin push glue wiggle Ring Gear Cover Plate Bolt Plate Ring Gear 14. Remove the Ring Gear Cover Plate from the parts tree. 15. Paint the Ring Gear Cover Plate black. 16. Paint the main structure black. 17. Paint the Ring Gear silver. 18. After the paint is dry, remove the paint handles from the Ring Gear and the Ring Gear Cover Plate. Painting Handles 19. To assemble the Ring Gear & Ring Gear Cover Plate, paint a line of glue onto the cover plate on the outside of the scribed ring. Place the Gear onto the Cover Plate and line up the scribed ring with the inside diameter of the Gear. Press together firmly and allow to dry. Glue Here Rings Line Up
pg.5 20. Paint the inside of the scribed ring on the back of the load with glue. Mount the Ring Gear assembly to the structure. Offset lift plate to gear side of structure and line up with bolt holes. 21. Apply the Lift Plates to the Bolt Plates. Offset them toward the gear side of the load so that it will be balanced when lifted by the crane. 22. Install the Welded Load Mounting Fins around the bottom of the load. These are installed by the shipper to mechanically secure the load during transit. They are welded to the deck and to the load. They will be cut off by the receiver. Wince welding doesn t work that well in HO, we suggest you use a small drop of glue on each Load Mounting Fin to secure it to the load structure. Allow the glue to dry and contact your local crane operator to move the load to your layout! Glue Under Fin Any sane person will skip this tiny piece! Precision Design Co. Box 1874 Altona, MB.
