Play close attention to the types of movements being made and make sure to maintain the proper fingering. When you feel comfortable, add an octave span bass playing just the root notes. Exercise 2 - Root Position Play the same progression above using a Root 5 Bass pattern. Concentrate on keeping an even tempo and not hesitating between chords. Pay more attention to your left hand and you ll be surprised how much your right hand makes the chord changes as a reflex. When you get this leg of this exercise down, go to the next one.

The end of this first set is a 1st inversion Em. Stiffen your hand in the 1st inversion chord position. While maintaining that position, lift your hand and put your pinky on the upper A note. You are now playing a 1st inversion Am. Begin the next set. The end of this second set is a 2nd inversion Em. Stiffen your hand in the 2nd inversion position. While maintaining that position, lift your hand and place your index finger on an A note. You are now playing a 2nd inversion Am. Begin the next set. The end of this last set is a root position Em. Stiffen your hand in the root position. While maintaining that position, lift your hand and place your thumb on an A note. You are now playing a root position Am. Repeat the entire circular exercise. Go on to the next Root 5 bass pattern exercise. Concentrate on keeping an even tempo and not hesitating between chords.
