WOMEN, SMEs AND INCLUSIVE GROWTH

WOMEN, SMEs AND INCLUSIVE GROWTH Tremendous potential to transform our economies, societies and our markets by closing the gender gap. SMEs need a high quality but simplified regulatory environment to start-up and thrive. Address constraints that hinder women s participation in global market: income, occupational sectors, mobility, access to digital dividends. Reducing trade barriers by simplifying regulations, improving access, and strengthening capabilities of SMEs to benefit from globalized digital trade.

WOMEN, SMEs AND INCLUSIVE GROWTH RELEVANCE FOR APEC

WOMEN, SMEs AND INCLUSIVE GROWTH Action Strategies Toolkit, to attract, retain and promote talented women in industries traditionally dominated by men, specifically mining, transportation, and energy. Gap Assessment on Digital Literacy, to ensure continued progress in addressing the digital divide which prevents women from fully participating in trade. Development of a gender responsive data initiative to encourage economies to collect and use data to give perspective to the challenges women face in the marketplace and international markets. Roadmap for Women and Inclusive Growth, to encourage sustained collective actions for increasing the participation of women in the economy and for further gender equality within APEC.

WOMEN, SMEs AND INCLUSIVE GROWTH Make business easier in APEC economies for MSMEs, how ICT and e-commerce services assist SMEs; common understanding to promote digital signatures in the region; develop common standards for APEC economies when providing information in the APEC MSME Marketplace; and raise awareness of the impact the Fintech Industry has on SMEs access to finance, investment and public policies. MSMEs provisions in free trade agreements, stocktake of the different provisions on SMEs in FTAs; discuss their efficacy and identify common provisions on SMEs for future FTAs.

DIGITAL SOCIETY - Society is in constant change through technological advancement - The new economy has particular characteristics - Opportunities for all members of society to become global - Not just important for developed economies in APEC

DIGITAL SOCIETY Importance for APEC - In 2014, the APEC Leaders endorsed the 'APEC Cooperation Initiative to Promote the Internet Economy - In 2015, APEC established an Ad Hoc Steering Group on the Internet Economy - In 2017, the APEC Internet and Digital Economy Roadmap was endorsed by Senior Officials in Viet Nam and was welcomed by Leaders

Implementing the Internet and Digital Economy Roadmap Improving regional connectivity through telecommunications Developing efficient, coherent and comprehensive regulatory frameworks for digital policies Developing trade rules for digital trade between APEC economies to enhance regional integration Design an APEC education, training and knowledge strategy that reflects the opportunities of new technologies
