The Photography West Mentor/Mentee ( M & M) Program MENTOR APPLICATION 2019 The design of the M & M program is to provide an opportunity for photographers of all experience levels to follow the path to make great pictures that are of interest to them, learn tips and techniques of the Mentors, meet and network with fellow Mentees and become more confident in their skills. The program is designed to help Mentees learn through a series of live classes, educational videos, one-on-one sessions with their mentor, homework assignments, group photo shooting sessions, hands on post processing of photographs. The photo class lessons (2 hours) will concentrate on Composition and Lighting, Group and Self Critiquing of Pictures and post processing work with Lightroom / Elements. We will be using Tony Northrups s Book How to Create Stunning Digital Photography to assist with the learning process. It utilizes 14 hours of educational videos. To maximize the learning experience each mentor and mentee is encouraged to purchase the book in Book or Kindle format. There will be specific classes on Controlling your Camera, quick tips, and problem solving, Landscape Photography, Composition, Flash Photography, Long Exposure Photography, High Dynamic Range Photography and Cell Phone Photography. The mentee and mentor may select other areas of interest such as Portraits, Still Life Photography, Street Photography, Animals, Night Photography, Macro Photography, Under Water Photography. Two critique events (one digital/one print) will be held as well as a Solo Show for the group, and a Friday Program will be put together with the Mentee digital photo contributions. Duration of this program approximately is approximately ten (10) weeks (January through March). It is the responsibility of the Mentor to: Attend as many of the sessions with the Mentee as possible. Accompany the Mentee on a photo shoot each week to help the Mentee fulfill the weekly assignments (help set up times, locations, select appropriate subjects). Help the Mentee with editing on the computer. Help the Mentee to print and mount the photos. Help the Mentee prepare their best photos for the Critique Events, Solo Show and Friday Program. Attend Critique Events. Help the Mentee as needed preparing/burning a CD / Thumb Drive for the Friday Program presentation. Offer encouragement, advice, and information that will help develop the Mentee s photography skills. Sit down with the Mentee to watch educational videos in the areas of specific interest to the mentee and discuss what was learned.
