Creating a coour that matches a referenced vaue in Onyx under Iustrator On www.hexis-graphics.com/en, HEXIS provide you with free-downoad profies for your printing media and your «machine» configurations (printer-ink-coours and RIP). A media profie contains: Certain printer parameters adapted to the media, ike heating temperature, suction, etc. A caibration of ink quantities appied to the printing media which aows optima use of the ink consumption whie maintaining the argest possibe reproducibe range of coours. An ICC profie which characterises the coorimetric response of the printing system. What to expect from this media profie? A media profie optimises the printing quaity on a media to accuratey print coours and to contro the quantity of inks used. Caution! A media profie is ony vaid for a given printing configuration RIP - Printer - Ink - Printing mode. Certain media-reated printer settings cannot be incuded in the media profie. It is imperative to reaise them to obtain a nice printing quaity (feed caibration, bidirectiona adjustment). See Product Buetin No.2. The profies downoadabe from our website are caed «generic» because they were not reaised directy on your printer. Even for an identica mode, there are differences from one printer to another. For greater coorimetric accuracy, the profie must be reaised directy on your printer, or at east be reinearised. 1. Instaing a media profie suitabe for your HEXIS printing media in Onyx 1.1.Downoading the media profie 1. Log in to our HEXIS website: http://www.hexis-graphics.com/en 2. Under the «Professionas» tab, seect «ICC profies». 3. Fi in the configuration of the printing system used and then cick SEARCH. (The fieds «Modes», «Inks», «Coour code» and «RIP» are mandatory.) If your machine configuration is not isted, contact the Printing Division department at the foowing address: http://www.hexis-graphics.com/en/supports/impression-numerique/contact-support-technique/ 4. Identify the media group (200 series, 3000 series, etc.) for which you want an ICC profie or directy seect the desired media from the drop-down ist. 2/17
HEXIS If the profie for your media is not isted, see the Crossed profies tab to find a repacement profie. 5. Cick the «Downoad» button. If you encounter any probems when downoading a HEXIS profie, pease fee free to contact the assistance department by e-mai at the foowing address: assistance@hexis.fr 1.2. Importing the media profie into Onyx 1. Open Media Manager, then «Media Library». 2. Cick the «Import» button, then «Import Media». 3/17
HEXIS 3. Seect the fie obtained from the HEXIS site (profie format:.om). In order to faciitate its downoad, it is possibe that the downoaded item is in compressed form. In this case, decompress it. 4. Cick the «Open» button. 5. Check if the media has been imported. In the case of importing probems, pease refer to the Digita Printing F.A.Q, avaiabe on the HEXIS website at the foowing address: http://www.hexis-graphics.com/en/supports/ 4/17
HEXIS 2. Defaut Setting of a Quick Set Open the «Configure Printer» window. If an error message appears, restart Onyx in administrator mode and then open again this window. Under the Quick Set tab, cick «New» and then name it. 5/17
2.1.Coour management setting 2.1.1. Seecting the media profie Identify the printing media which matches your main HEXIS media used in the «Media Group» and «Media Name» drop-down ists. 2.1.2. Seecting the printing mode Seect the resoution, printing direction and number of runs that best suit your printing constraints in terms of productivity and quaity. A ow-quaity fast printing wi further promote the appearance and perception of defects reated to the state and setting of the machine (cogged nozzes, bad print heads aignment, etc.) than a high-quaity sow printing. 2.1.3. Configuring the input ICC profies and coorimetric rendering Cick the «Change Profies» icon in the «Coour Management» tab to seect the input ICC profies and the coorimetric rendering intents according to your work habits. By defaut, HEXIS recommend to use the srgb in RVB and CoatedFOGRA39 in CMJN because these are the most current standard profies. In the «Rendering Intents» tab, HEXIS further recommend to print with the perceptua coorimetric rendering. 7/17
HEXIS Additiona options When configuring the input ICC profies, Onyx presents two additiona options: Function «ICC Pure Hues» When this box is checked, each pure CMJN coour in your fie is excuded from the coorimetric ICC conversion. Exampe: A 70 % back wi be printed ony with back ink, a 30 % yeow ony with yeow ink. This can be particuary usefu for deicate etterings and barcodes when you want to avoid ags between cyan, magenta, yeow and back. Function «Use Embedded Rendering Intent When Avaiabe» Check the case «Use Embedded Rendering Intent When Avaiabe» in order to preserve the input profie contained in the origina image to the detriment of the settings carried out in the «Profies» section. The advantage of this too is to preserve the coorimetry of the origina fie by avoiding an erroneous interpretation of the numerica vaues of the fie. For more information on these options, pease refer to the Product Buetin No.3: «Introduction to coour management». 2.2. Using spot coours Spot coours are used to print the coours of an image reated to certain references coorimetricay as cose as possibe. To activate this option and the printing of referenced coours on your image in spot coours, check the case «Use Spot Coour Repacement Tabe» and activate the absoute matching method. (Pease refer to the Onyx user manua for versions prior to Onyx V.12.) Enabing the «absoute» matching method for spot coour printing: 1. Cick the «Setup» tab. 8/17
2. Choose the «RIP Configuration» menu, then «Configure Jaws RIP». 3. Verify that the «SPOTRENDERINTENT» option is unchecked. Some spot coours may not be printabe by your machine; this means that the printed coour does not match the referenced one, mainy because of the imited reproduction space of your printer. For more information, pease refer to the technica data sheet no.3: «Introduction to coour management». Quick Set Registration Cick «Ok». The configuration is visibe in the Quick Set ist. Seect the created Quick Set when you import an image so that the configuration is appied to it by defaut. 9/17
When using another HEXIS printing media for exampe, you can easiy change the media profie by opening your image in the «Job Editor», and adjust the resoution, number of runs and printing direction according to your printing purposes. 2.3.«Machine» settings For more information on the printer caibration, pease refer to the technica data sheet no.2: «Setting up your printers according to your HEXIS media». Some printer settings can be controed at the RIP eve. You can choose which settings are used: those set on the printer or those originated from the media profie; otherwise you can directy customise them. Seect the image to print, then right-cick. In the «Edition» tab, choose «Printer Settings». The printer setting vaues on this window (feed, suction, heating temperature, etc.) can be changed by checking the boxes reated to these settings. When printing, the entered data wi be taken into account for the benefit of those originated directy from the machine. 2.3.1. Feed Caibration Contro Since the feed vaue is different at the beginning and at the end of the ro, HEXIS recommend to caibrate this setting directy on your machine, and to verify that the «Pane Setting» command in the caibration section is checked. 2.3.2. Heater Contro When downoading the media profie on the HEXIS website, the temperatures 1 corresponding to the media are entered. HEXIS recommend using the heating temperatures of the profie, by unchecking the boxes corresponding to the temperatures of the different heating pates. 10/17
However, these temperatures can be modified by the user depending on the surrounding temperature and humidity conditions. 3. How to print Pantone, Ra or HEXIS coours. Some ibraries are aready embedded in Onyx, but other ones can be added. 3.3.1. Importing the HEXIS coour ibrary into Onyx 1. Go to the HEXIS website: http://www.hexis-graphics.com 2.
