Preferred Citation [Item description], [Location within collection organization identified by Collection Number/Series Number/File Unit Number/Item Number], P09-008 (SAFR 22236), San Francisco event photographs, San Francisco Acquisition Information SAFR-00401 SAFR-00721, SAFR-02040, SAFR-01459 Accession SAFR-00401 consists of photographic prints and negatives of various vessels and scenes around Hyde Street Pier and Victorian Park, circa 1961-1977. These materials were found in a desk drawer by Sue Garfield and were accessioned on October 4, 1991. Most of the photographs in this accession have been cataloged as P91-078, SAFR 22247. The photographs from Fleet Week in 1984 have been cataloged here as P09-008, SAFR 22236. Accession SAFR-02040 was accessioned on May 26, 2009. Many items were cataloged separately as objects. Accession SAFR-00721 was received in 1993 as a field collection found at the park's Hyde Street branch library in 1986. The videotape reel was accrued to P09-008 on April 2, 2012. The other videocassette tape from SAFR-00721 has been cataloged as P93-051. Accession SAFR-01459 was received in 1999 as a field collection filmed by park staff on September 12, 1998. The videocassettes were accrued to P09-008 on July 30, 2012. Historical or Biographical Note Contains photographs and audiovisual materials from events held in the San Francisco (established in 1988) and events in the park under its prior name of Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) National Maritime Museum (in existence from 1977-1988). Includes photographs and audiovisual materials documenting Festival of the Sea from 1979-1998, Fleet Week in 1984, Nash Bridges press conference in 1997, and group photographs of San Francisco Maritime staff from 1991-2001. Among the Festival of the Sea materials are videocassettes documenting a reunion of former chantey sing leaders in 1998. Festival of the Sea, 1979; 1989 or 1995; 1998 Extent: 19 items Contains videotapes and photographs from Festival of the Sea on Hyde Street Pier. One reel of 1/2" videotape (Sony brand V-30H) containing footage from the Festival of the Sea, September 1-3, 1979. Content cannot be described until the tape is transferred to a format readable by museum's equipment. (SAFR-00721) is located in video storage. 14 color photographic prints of various sizes (3.5 x 4.5 in., 4 x 5 in., 4 x 6 in.) from the Festival of the Sea, August 26-27, 1989, or August 26-27, 1995. Shows people playing musical instruments, children in a rowboat, people tying knots, people wearing life preservers, and the vessels ALMA, BALCLUTHA, DIXIE, HAWAIIAN CHIEFTAN and POLARIS. (SAFR-02040) in Folder 1 in document box. Note: These photographs were taken on August 26-27, Saturday and Sunday. These two dates fell on a weekend in 1989 and 1995 but it is unknown which year these photographs were taken. 4 color videocassettes with sound containing footage of a chantey sing reunion on September 12, 1998, aboard C.A. THAYER (built 1895; schooner, 3m). The event was part of the Festival of the Sea activities at Hyde Street Pier. Previous leaders of the monthly chantey sings are present. Performers include Dave Nettle, Celeste Bernardo, Revell Carr Jr., Peter Kasin, Louis Killen, and others. The group sings various chanteys with audience participation. Collection consists of (2) camera original Video8 8mm master videocassettes and (2) VHS 1/2" videocassettes copies of the master 8mm videos. Running time of tape #1 is 2 hours. Running time of tape #2 is 1 hour and 12 minutes. Digitized copies of the VHS tapes are available. Subseries 1.2. Fleet Week, 1984 Extent: 39 items Contains photographs from Fleet Week in 1984. Don Johnson and "Nash Bridges Productions" donated 23 tons of lumber for the ferry EUREKA's preservation and there was a press conference held on August 18, 1997, to commemorate this donation. Don Johnson played the character Nash Bridges on the television show of the same name, which was filmed on the EUREKA.
