Page 1 of 7 Removing and installing balance shaft assembly Special tools and workshop equipment required Locking pin -T10115- Locking tool -T10255- Removing Remove sump Chapter. Rotate crankshaft to TDC Chapter and lock crankshaft using crankshaft stop - T10050- for engines with circular crankshaft sprocket, or crankshaft stop - T10100- for engines with oval crankshaft sprocket. Unscrew bolts -arrows- and detach chain sprocket cover.
Page 2 of 7 Press guide rail for chain tensioner in - direction of arrow- using a screwdriver and lock chain tensioner with locking pin - T10115-. Remove bolts -1- and -3-. Disregard -item 2-. Unscrew bolts -arrows- and detach chain sprocket from balance shaft. Unscrew bolts in the sequence -8... 1- and remove balance shaft assembly with oil
Page 3 of 7 pump. Installing Renew the bolts tightened with specified tightening angle. Crankshaft is locked at TDC using crankshaft stop -T10050- for engines with circular crankshaft sprocket, or crankshaft stop -T10100- for engines with oval crankshaft sprocket. Chain sprocket fitted into drive chain for balance shaft. Make sure both dowel sleeves are in place before installing balance shaft assembly. Initially screw bolts -1... 8- in finger-tight. Lock balance shaft with locking tool - T10255-. The lug of the locking tool must engage in the groove of the balance shaft.
Page 4 of 7 Bolt on chain sprocket for balance shaft loosely -arrows-. It must still be possible to move the chain sprocket back and forth in the elongated holes. If it is not possible to align the elongated holes in the chain sprocket with the threaded holes, the chain sprocket must be moved one tooth further in the drive chain. The balance shaft assembly must be removed again for this procedure. Tighten bolts securing balance shaft assembly as follows: 1. Pre-tighten bolts in the sequence -1... 8- to 6 Nm. 2. Tighten bolts -5- and -7- to 13 Nm. 3. Turn bolts -5- and -7-90 further ( 1 / 4 turn) using a rigid wrench. 4. Tighten bolts -1 4-, -6- and -8- to 20 Nm. 5. Turn bolts -1... 4-, -6- and -8-90 further ( 1 / 4 turn) using a rigid wrench. Tighten bolts -1- and -3-. Disregard items marked -2- and -arrow-. Remove locking pin -T10115- from chain tensioner.
Page 5 of 7 Insert locking tool -T10255- in balance shaft again to secure chain sprocket. The lug of the locking tool must engage in the groove of the balance shaft. Tighten bolts -arrows-. Remove locking tool -T10255-.
