Plan your path from the studies to your career 1/5 Your studies are the beginning step toward your career. During your studies you have to make several decisions. Some of these decisions might enhance, or conversely, lower the opportunities to enter the labour market. With the help of following questions you can determine which items are very important or fairly important to you at this point in time, and which items you have already completed. Please note that it will be impossible to choose all items as very important from a time management perspective. At the end, you will find empty cards on which you can write additional goals and objectives, not found in the cards below. Please choose goals and objectives from the menu below. Choose items that are very important or fairly important right now. Then complete an action plan on how to reach your goals. On the action plan, please include the goal, HOW you are going to reach it (what steps will you take), whom you may need to consult about it, and by when you expect the goal to be completed. I start writing my thesis. I find out about possibilities to write my thesis for a company. I choose a thesis topic that will benefit my employability. I decide my minors, and consider also subjects in other universities (jooopinnot) Abroad? I find about my chances of getting an internship or exchange student placement outside Finland. I decide what I want to do after my studies. I recognize my skills. What are they and what is missing? I explore the labour market what kind of possibilities? I plan my career further the first step. I write down my experiences and reflect what I ve learnt.

2/5 I set realistic goals for my future. I vision my dream job. I do a schedule for my studies and goals. I start collecting a portfolio with a career perspective. I find out what kind of skills and experience employers appreciate. I explore my possibilities. I get work experience. I find out what kind of salary is given for certain types of work. I network with people who are important to me. I improve my skills and test them. I figure out what skills I still need. I collect information about interesting employers. I recognize my fields of interest. I go off to internship/work and then come back to studying. I make the most out of my internship experience. I set learning goals for my internship. I look back at my work experience: which tasks I appreciated the most, which ones I didn t like. I figure out what I ve learnt from different jobs. I learn how to tell bout my skills and experience market myself. Attitude? I reconsider my attitude and my way of approaching employers.

3/5 I go on directly with my master s program. I find out about my chances to change to a different major. I learn about different master s programs. I plan my studies in a way which serves best my goals after studies. I learn how to write a good curriculum vitae and an application letter. I contact employers and try to find an internship in an interesting organization. I have someone read my application letters. I find out where previous students have found their employment. I volunteer work in order to further my future goals. The core of my education? I figure out what I should know when I graduate. I improve my language skills. I interview the people I know about their jobs.

4/5 Action plan Do a schedule and write down how to further your goals. Follow up. Very important What to do? Schedule Ok Results? What to do? Schedule Ok Results?
