COPY OF YOUR COMMISSION Every once in a while someone will be a little distrustful about who you are. It is a good idea to make a copy of your commission, either laminate it or place it in a clear plastic sleeve and carry it with you to your signings. We have only had to show our commissions a few times over the years but doing this satisfied a few very skeptical signers. Page 2 Student Spotlight My name is Pamela Chalmers and I got started as a Notary Signing Agent after having conversation with a young lady over breakfast while on vacation. I shared with her that I was looking for a business I could get started without a lot of up front money. She shared with me that she was a NSA and that it was fairly easy and inexpensive to get started. Once I got back home, I got online and researched all the necessary information to get started. I first applied for my Notary Commission, then I searched for information on getting trained and certified. I stumbled upon Notary2Pro s website and after contacting them I signed up for the training class. I have to admit I did not pass the exam on my first try (I scored 88), I could not wait until the next morning to take the exam! Once my Notary Commission and my stamp arrived, I signed up to get work and four days later I received my first signing appointment. So far, for this year I have done over a total of 159 signings. I would say that the only obstacle that I really had was fear of not being able to do the job correctly and not getting any calls. I overcame those fears by first Praying and trusting In God because I believe He would not have put the people and things in place if it was not meant for me to do this. The best tip I can give anyone on doing this job is first believe in yourself, take your time, if there is something that you are not sure about, don t be afraid to ask questions and to ask for help. As far as marketing: no one can market yourself better that you. I always put myself in position to tell almost everyone that I meet what I do and ask for referrals. The best marketing tool is always doing the very best you can do on every assignment, being and looking professional on every assignment, and being on time. I would also say that a person can do this part time or full time it is basically what and how much you want to get out of doing this. There are many rewards of doing this job and being my own boss: you can set your own schedule, work as few or as many hours as you want. My reward is the opportunity of meeting different people and being able to share with them. I encourage anyone interested in becoming a NSA that is struggling to hang in there and don t give up. Always ask questions if you are not sure of something and to get out of your comfort zone and open your mouth and talk to people everywhere you go; the bank, the store, your friends etc. The most difficult thing for me being a NSA is not getting the documents on time. I adapted to this obstacle by giving the job back and moving on to the next assignment. I know that sounds harsh, but when you have more than one assignment you cannot let one keep you from doing a great job on your other assignments. My favorite part of the job other than the pay, as I said above is meeting other people. The last thing I would like to share is that the training I received from Notary2Pro was outstanding! Page 3 ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The owner of a successful signing service called me and she sounded a little down. When I asked her if something was wrong she told me she had a day full of notary problems. This was a conversation that really bothered me. We all realize that there are a lot of Signing Agents doing less than a perfect job with their signings and their customer service doesn t exist, but what she had to tell me was really awful. She hired a couple of notaries to do signings. She found both of them on one of the better known professional databases. Both notaries advertised that they were very experienced. She received a call from one of the signing agents while at the signing. The question was, I have something called a Notice of Right to Cancel, what am I supposed to do with this?. WHAT! She received another call from a title company letting her know that the notary (who advertised herself as having done over 5,000 signings), did not return a Deed of Trust in the package. Come to find out the lender failed to include one in the package. My question is, WHAT KIND of Signing Agent would go through an entire signing without realizing that there is no security instrument in the package? I teach my students the importance of going through the documents as they are being printed to double check them. They need to be the right size, right print and they need to make sure all documents did print correctly per the instructions provided them. Well, bad on me! It never crossed my mind to teach them to make sure that there are things like a Note or Deed of Trust in the package. So this will serve as notice to all of you students, graduates and Signing Agents. Please double check your documents to make sure that when dealing with LOAN DOCUMENTS there is a Note and a Mortgage or Deed of Trust. If not, call your vendor and let them know what you need before you go to your signing. And, to those of you who advertise your experience, you had better have the experience you claim to have because if you are lying it will catch up with you eventually. Our students are told to be truthful and never claim experience they don t have. So if you see a bio of someone who is a recent graduate of Notary2Pro, you will see that they post other experiences and qualifications showing why will be really good signing agents. Because they are graduates of Notary2Pro you can feel very comfortable hiring them! Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulty, lies opportunity. George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" He said "No, but some people are breaking into my garden shed and stealing from me." Then the police dispatcher said "All patrols are busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available" George said, "Okay." He hung up the phone and counted to 30. Then he phoned the police again. "Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot and killed them both, the dogs are eating them right now." and he hung up. Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George, "I thought you said that you'd shot them!" George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!" (True Story) I LOVE IT! Don't mess with old people.
