Correct Digitizing for Best Results When Creating Badges on Madeira s MFS 1. Set the first jump stitch to the corner of reference. Continue with another jump stitch to the start of the design. 2. Digitize the outline of the design with running stitches. Set this outline at a distance of 0.7 mm inside the badge s edge. 3a. After digitizing the outline, set the first grid with a filling stitch using a density of 4.00 mm and a stitch length of 4.00 mm Multifunctional Frame System 1

3b. Set the first diagonal grid exactly at the edge. The grid s fill stitches end directly at the badge s edge. The running outline you previously stitched, and the grid s fill stitch will overlap. 4. Use a running stitch again to outline the badge s border, as shown in step 2 5a. Then embroider a second diagonal grid with a fill stitch. The second grid should be at a 45 angle to the first grid. Use the same method as mentioned in step 3. Multifunctional Frame System 2

5b. The finished grid will act as the embroidery s background. 6. Now that you have created the embroidery s background, start digitizing the actual embroidery: To stabilize the badge, set some underlay stitches. They should have a density of 0.4 mm and a filling stitch length of 4 mm. The underlay stitches should be set around 0.8 mm apart from the badge s edge. 7. Next that, set the upper fill stitches. To compensate for eventually pulling the plastic film away from the badge, the stitch direction should be lengthwise to the running direction of the Pre-frames. Here again, keep a distance of approximately 0.5-1.0 mm between the fill stitches and the badge s edge. Multifunctional Frame System 3

8. To realize a clean satin stitch border it is helpful to digitize a double outline with running stitches. The running stitches should be digitized 0.7 mm apart from the satin stitch border. 9. Complete the edge with satin stitches. It is important that the satin stitches overlap the badge s outside edge by 0.5 mm, while the rest of the stitch width should be inside the badge. 10. After completing the embroidery, set a jump stitch back to the starting point (corner of reference). 10/14 FG-DIG Don t forget that you may always add new elements such as names, even once you finish the job. Just re-insert the embroidered Pre-frames in the MFS Frame and, refering to the starting point, the machine will always find the correct position. Multifunctional Frame System 4

MFS Instructional Sheet Congratulations on purchasing the Multifunctional Frame System (MFS) from Madeira USA! This easy-to-operate accessory will enable you to create professional emblems and badges and to attach them to garments quickly and easily. Your MFS consists of just 3 elements: A standard square embroidery hoop (1) that fits your specific brand of machine 2 A 2-part removable frame that fits inside the hoop (2) 1 25 Individual pre-frames that (3) fit into the removable frame To create independent badges or patches: 3 Step 1. To begin, place the metal insert into the plastic base of the hoop (4). 4 Step 2. Line up the holes of a pre-frame with the metal tracks of the insert (5). 5 6 Step 3. Place the top part of the metal insert over the pre-frame, lining up with the tracks and locking the pre-frame in place with the side locks (6).

Step 4. You are ready to sew out your embroidered badge or patch! If small in size, fit more than one badge on a single pre-frame (7). 7 Step 5. After embroidering, remove the pre-frame from the metal insert, tear away the pre-frame and your badge or patch are complete (8)! To attach your badge or patch to a garment: 9 Follow steps 1 4 above, then, Step 1. After embroidering, but before the final satin stitch outline, remove the pre-frame and the metal insert from the hoop, position and hoop the garment in the plastic embroidery hoop. Then replace the metal insert and embroidered pre-frame (9). 8 Step 2. Complete the badge or patch by having the machine embroider a satin stitch all around the edges. These are the only stitches that will be seen on the inside of the garment. 10 11 Step 3. Simply tear away the pre-frame from the top of the garment (10). The finished badge is cleanly sewn to the garment (11). 10/14 FG-INS

~ A 100 micron Film that Dissolves with Heat E-Zee Film Heftyis a 100 micron, heat sensitive film. It is made of Polyolefin, contains no formaldehyde and is 100% environmentally friendly. Stand alone embroidered patches and emblems pop out easily. Excess material is removed completely with heat. The use of two layers can significantly improve stability and proper registration, especially on large and complex designs. Material left within fill stitches and satin stitches remains providing firm badges and emblems that can be adhered to garments, caps and other fabrics.* Film Hefty General Guidelines for Using E-Zee Heat Away Film 1. Hoop E-Zee Heat Away Film by itself. 2. Embroider design directly on the film. 3. Tear the excess film away from the outside of the design. Remove any open area pieces of film if possible. 4. Carefully remove any excess film by applying heat with a heat press or hand held iron with temperatures between 248 F to 284 F (120 C to 140 C) for a few seconds. Available in these sizes: General Digitizing Instructions Rolls 1. Start with 3 layers of underlay with 19 x 109 yards outlines stitches to set a firm foundation. 1. Avoid multiple perforations in the same area. 2. Use a fill stitch to create fabric. 3. Create the design on top of and in conjunction with the fabric. 4. Use a double outline underlay and overlap the outer satin stitches of the badge for a crisp edge. * E-Zee Heat Away Film is not a heat seal. A separate heat seal or other type of head activated film is needed to adhere stand alone badges and emblems to garments. Heat Seal 4220 ~ A 5 mil. Double-Sided Heat-Activated Seal E-Zee Heat Seal 4220 5 mil. is a transparent nylon film. It has heat-activated adhesive on both sides. A special release paper is on one side to allow for pressing. It is a highly bondable heat seal used primarily on the back side of badges that will be permanently sealed to garments or hats. It adheres well to acetate, silk, cotton, rayon and wool. It provides exceptional dry cleaning resistance and excellent wash-ability. Made of nylon (polyamide). How to use for Badges, Patches and Emblems 1. Hoop fabric, crinoline and/or stabilizer. 2. Embroider design and un-hoop. 3. Lay a piece of E-Zee Heat Seal on the back side of the embroidery with the release paper facing up. 4. Use a heat press or iron to bond the E-Zee Heat Seal to the fabric (see chart below). 5. Allow to cool and then pull off the release paper. 6. Cut the patch to shape with scissors or a die cutter. 7. Finish the edges with a serging machine or a zigzag stitch on a home sewing machine. Please note The recommended heat setting for the garment or substrate must be taken into account when setting the temperature of the iron or heat press for heat seals. E-Zee Heat Seal 5256 5 mil. is a polyester heat seal with heat-activated adhesives on both sides. A special release paper is on one side to allow for pressing. It may be used alone or in conjunction with Heat Laminate 3218 to produce permanent seals on patches and appliqués.
