SANP JANUARY 2009 NEWSLETTER JANUARY MONTHLY MEETING Date: Tuesday, January 27, 2009 Time: Social time 6:30pm/Meeting 7:00pm Location: Goins Auditorium, Pellissippi State Technical Community College Our presenter this month is SANP member Greg Hutson. Greg s presentation will be a series of short programs showcasing an overview of his photography in the Smokies, East Tennessee, and Southern Appalachians. BIO Greg was born and raised in the mountains of western Maryland. As a young boy he developed an intense love of all things outdoors. He decided early on that a career in one of the natural sciences, and working in the great outdoors was the only way he would ever be happy making a living. To that end he attended West Virginia University, graduating with a BS degree in Forest Resource Management, and a Masters degree in Forest Hydrology. He worked within the forest products industry for 30 years, and eight years ago started his own forestry consulting business, Little River Timber Management Inc.

He currently resides in Maryville, TN and travels extensively with his work throughout Tennessee and the greater Appalachian hardwood region including parts of Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. He dallied in 35mm film photography off and on through the years starting back in college, but really got serious with his photography when he bought his first Nikon digital camera about 4 years ago. He now shoots with both a Nikon D80 and a D300. Wildlife portraits are the pictures he likes capturing most, but he rarely passes on any opportunity to capture a nature related image. His most recent photography project is a series of large landscape prints, the use of which he donated to The Conservation Fund. They have used them to help raise funds to purchase and preserve a truly unique 10,000 acre tract of pristine mountain land in Unicoi County Tennessee. You can see some of the images at www.conservationfund.org. Search for Rocky Fork. 2009 SALON DINNER REGISTRATION The 2009 Salon Dinner Registration Form is included at the end of this newsletter.
