Mean, Median, Mode, and Range Graphic Organizer Words to Know MEAN Definition Example How to Solve Add all of the numbers in the data set. Divide by the amount of numbers in the set. MEDIAN MODE Find the number that repeats itself the most. RANGE The difference between the highest number and the lowest number in the data set.

Mean, Median, Mode, and Range Reference Sheet The MEAN is the average. Find the mean by adding up the numbers and divide by how many there are. Example: (6 + 6 + 4 + 5 + 4) / 5 = 5. The MEDIAN is the number in the middle. In order to find the median, you have to put the values in order from lowest to highest, and then find the number that is exactly in the middle: Example: 80 85 87 90 90 90 100 If there is an even number of values, you find the mean (or average) of the middle two numbers. The MODE is the value that occurs most often. Example: 7, 10, 9, 15, 9, 7, 16, 9 The mode is 9. The RANGE is the difference between the lowest and highest values. Example: 13, 16, 10, 14, 21 21 (highest value) 10 (lowest value) = 11 The range is 11.
