Day 1 West Cork Hike & Sea Kayak Meeting in Cork, we travel to Kinsale, a traditional fishing town that is today Ireland s gourmet capital. Exploring Kinsale s rugged coast, listen to tales of conquests, smugglers, pirates and even the Spanish Armada. As the sun sets over our shoulders, push off on an atmospheric sea kayak under a moonlit sky. Paddle through the quiet waters while you marvel at silhouettes of seabirds, the canopy of stars, or, at certain times of year, the astonishing bio-luminescence in the water. Day 2 Cape Clear Boat Trip & Hike 13km off the coast lies Ireland s southernmost inhabited island. Cape Clear is a tiny Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) island dotted with megalithic standing stones, 5,000 year old passage graves and medieval ruins of churches and castles - all testament to this remote island's rich heritage. Hiking across the island, take advantage to spot its spectacular bird life - perhaps even visit a herd of goats and taste some of their very own icecream. Day 3 Beara Peninsula Cycle A remote finger of land stretching into the Atlantic Ocean, the Beara Peninsula, is one of Ireland s lesser-known treasures. Pristine beaches, rocky coves and windswept hills as well as ancient archaeological sites and stone circles and ruined signal towers abound in Beara. Explore Beara on two wheels: we ll cycle around the Beara Peninsula, boarding Ireland s only cable car to explore rural Dursey Island (but please note the sheep and cows get precedence in the cable car!). Day 4 the Kerry Way & Sheep Dog Herding Though the Kingdom of Kerry is a popular destination, we ll explore one of the most remote stretches of the Kerry Way. With a local farmer, learn about life on an Irish farm, and hopefully see the sheep dogs and their flocks in action! Hiking through Kerry s dramatic mountain passes and valleys, we ll admire some of Ireland s highest and most beautiful mountains. Once on the shores of the lakes of Killarney, we ll catch a local river boat through the quiet waters to the ancient ruin of the medieval Ross Castle, snuggled in the magnificent landscape of Killarney National Park. Day 5 Skellig Michael - Boat Trip & Hike Following in the footsteps of 7th century Irish monks, we island hop to the Skellig Islands, two rock pinnacles jutting out of the battering Atlantic. It was on Skellig Michael, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that monks lived and prayed in stone beehive huts centuries ago. Little Skellig, a birdwatcher s paradise, is home to some 27,000 pairs of gannets. Back on dry land we make our way along the coast to visit the pub of Antarctic explorer Tom Crean. Please note this excursion is weather dependant, if for some reason the boat cannot go, we can visit the Skellig Experience Visitor Centre as well as the Skellig Ring, one of Lonely Planet s top-rated destinations. In the afternoon, we ll enjoy a spectacular walk along little-known white sand beach. Overnight: 4 Star Boutique Hotel Dingle
Day 6 Dingle Way Hike Start off with a hike up Mt Brandon, a pilgrimage route connected to St Brendon, as well as a range of windblown cliff tops along the beloved Dingle Way. In the afternoon there will be free time to peruse the art galleries and craft shops of the quirky little village of Dingle. Dingle is arguably one of the strongest bastions of traditional Irish music and this evening we shall join the locals in one of the pubs to experience some real craic agus ceol (meaning fun and music in Irish). Day 7 Blarney Stone- Kiss! Enjoy a relaxed start to the day as we pack up in preparation for our journey home. On route to Cork city, we shall stop off at the infamous Blarney Castle to kiss a stone and gain the gift of the gab! Be careful what you wish for.
