The Minister and KPC CEO were received by Acting KOC CEO Menahi Al-Enezi at the Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition. KOC DCEOs and a number of senior officials from the Company were also on hand to receive the visiting delegation. The Minister s visit to KOC is the first he has made to any of the K-Companies since assuming office in December of 2018. During his time at KOC, the Minister was briefed on the Company s operations and activities, where Manager Exploration Mohammed Dawas Al-Ajmi and Manager Planning Bader Al-Attar delivered two presentations in which they discussed current projects, future plans and various strategies through which the Company seeks to enhance Kuwait s position as a leading oil and gas producer. The two presentations included a discussion with the Minister and KPC CEO on how to improve the Company s performance throughout all its areas of operation. At the end of the visit, the Minister and KPC CEO were provided with a tour of the exhibition, where they were briefed on the history of oil in Kuwait. 2 KPC CEO Hashem S. Hashem Visits KOC The visit included a tour of North Kuwait facilities KPC CEO Hashem Sayed Hashem recently paid a visit to KOC, where he was provided with a tour of the various projects the Company has implemented in North Kuwait. During the tour, which is his first since assuming office, the KPC CEO was accompanied by Acting KOC CEO Menahi Al-Enezi, DCEO North Kuwait Nayef Al-Enezi, DCEO Major Projects and Technical Services Khalid Al Otaibi, Group Managers, and Team Leaders. The tour included a visit to the new Heavy Oil Complex in South Ratqa and facilities which are currently under construction in North Kuwait, where Hashem delivered a speech in which he commended the effort KOC has made in implementing these vital projects. The tour concluded with a lunch at the Umm Al-Aish Oasis that was attended by the KPC CEO, his delegation, and senior KOC officials. Before parting, the KPC CEO discussed Kuwait s current and future plans for the oil sector and how to address the challenges which lie ahead.
KOC Hosts 1 st Arab Environmental Media Conference Event was held under the patronage of the Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity & Water 3 Under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity and Water Dr. Khaled Ali Al-Fadhel, Kuwait Oil Company recently hosted the First Arab Environmental Media Conference, which was held at the Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition over the course of three days. The event was organized by the Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS), in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Environment and Sustainable Development of the General Union of Arab Producers. The conference was held under the title of: International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War & Armed Conflict. During the event, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil Sheikh Talal Al-Athbi Al-Sabah delivered a speech on behalf of the Minister of Oil, where he discussed Kuwait s oil industry and its relationship with the environment, including ways in which better forms of environmental preservation and protection could be implemented. The President of KEPS, Wujdan Al-Oqab, and the President of the General Union of Arab Producers, Ibrahim Abu Thekri, also addressed the audience. Participating parties and KOC were honored as the official sponsors of the conference, where Manager PR & Information Mohammad Al-Basry received an honorary plaque. Team Leader Information Bodoor Sayed Omar also received an honorary plaque from the organizing committee. Later, the attendees were provided with a tour of the Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition. Two films were then screened: The Environmental Saga produced by KEPS and Stories Never Told Before produced by KOC.
4 KOC Hosts Great Green Wall Campaign KEPA, KISR & PAAFR also took part in the environmental campaign Under the patronage of DCEO (WK) Mohammad Al-Zuabi, the HSE (WK) and HSE (Gas) Teams jointly organized the Great Green Wall Campaign as part of KOC s vision to enhance the performance of employees toward environmental sustainability and awareness. The campaign was conducted at the Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition, where staff from KOC, the Kuwait Environment Public Authority, Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, and Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources participated. The campaign helped to raise the level of awareness on desertification and the methods that are currently available to mitigate or reverse its impact in affected areas throughout Kuwait. Manager Support Services (WK) Farouq Al-Hindal welcomed the attendees and explained the purpose of the campaign. Alaa Al-Bloushi and Moudhi Hamadi from KEPA presented a session titled: Best Way To Combat Desertification. This was followed by a presentation titled: Economic Impact, Risk Assessment & Mitigation Control of Sand & Dust Storms in the Oil & Gas Industry in Kuwait by Dr. Ali Al-Homoud from KISR. Nouf Al-Hashash from PAAFR delivered a presentation titled: The Role of Native Plants in the Ecosystems of the State of Kuwait. This was followed by a presentation titled: Tranquility, Majesty & Beauty in the Desert by Arif Santoso from the KOC Maintenance (SK) Team. Towards the end of the event, Moath Al-Wazzan from the KOC Water Handling (WK) Team delivered a presentation titled: Abdaliya Preserve Area. KOC Participates in 2040 Best Practices Workshop Financial Systems & Control Group discussed the Assets Tracking System (ATS) Represented by the Financial Systems & Control Group, KOC recently took part in the 2040 K-Companies Best Practices Workshop, which was organized by PIC at the Boubyan Club in Salwa. During the event, KOC delivered a presentation which focused on one of its best practices, the Assets Tracking System (ATS), which received praise and recognition from the audience for the challenges it is able to address and overcome. Financial Systems & Control Group Manager Yousef Al-Kandari represented KOC during the meeting and explained the system s purpose and importance. He also discussed some of the pressing challenges faced by KOC that the system will help address. Meanwhile, TL Financial Reporting Faisal Al-Loughani provided details about the system, starting with its phases and actual implementation within KOC. He also discussed the time, effort and costs savings the system generates. He then provided an outline of KOC s future plans and how the system will assist in achieving some of the Company s strategic objectives.
5 KOC HSE Teams Organize Awareness Campaign Right Tools - Safe Job campaign held at the Unity Center Under the patronage and presence of Manager Operations Support Group (E&G) Bader Al-Qaoud and Manager Operations Support Group (S&EK) Bader Mahmoud, the HSE Team (Gas), and HSE Team (S&EK) recently organized the Right Tools - Safe Job campaign at the Unity Center in Ahmadi. TL HSE (Gas) Majed Al-Mutairi and TL HSE (S&EK) Abdullah Al-Azmi attended the event and delivered opening remarks. A number of employees from the South & East Kuwait, Exploration, and Gas Directorates, in addition to contractor employees and representatives from HILTI and 3M, were also in attendance. At the beginning of the event, Al-Mutairi delivered a speech in which he welcomed the audience. A number of related presentations were then delivered which provided an overview on how to properly use tools in the workplace. A competition for attendees was then organized and prizes were awarded to the winners. Contracts Group Organizes Workshop Workshop provided an overview of KOC s EPC Model Suite The Contracts Group recently conducted a Contractual Awareness Workshop which provided an overview of the Company s EPC Model suite. The primary objective of the workshop was to raise awareness and improve competence levels among key internal Company stakeholders and PMC consultants with the Company s five EPC model contracts. The workshop was introduced by Ibrahim Al-Kharji, Manager Contracts, who welcomed attendees and provided insight into the role of the Contracts Group within the context of the Company s strategic objectives. Following this, Senior Consultant (Contracts), Mohamed Sadek, provided a comprehensive overview of the Company s suite of EPC model contracts with particular focus on key features and respective advantages. He also presented a comprehensive review of the LSTK model Contract. PMC consultants Trevor Smyth, Stephen Harrington and Merv Mackay contributed to the discussion, which included an overview of the recommended improvements to the LSTK model contract based on the Contracts Group review of recent disputes and lessons learned. This was followed by a presentation of the key features of the re-measurable and Cost Plus (FEED by contractor) model contracts. The workshop featured the participation of 45 attendees representing the Major Projects Group, Contracts Group, and the Company s PMC consultants. It concluded with an engaging question and answer session which provided an excellent opportunity to enhance the understanding of key users and stakeholders in the Company s suite of model contracts.
6 PR&I Group Honors My Language, My Identity Participants Initiative aimed to enhance the language skills of Ahmadi school students The PR & Information Group recently organized an event to honor participants in the My Language, My Identity initiative which was launched to promote awareness of the importance of the Arabic language and to develop reading skills. The initiative targeted Educational Staff at Ahmadi schools, parents, and students. The honorary ceremony was held under the auspices of Manager PR & Information Mohammad Al-Basry, who delivered tokens of appreciation to the Head of Activities at Ahmadi Educational Zone, Haya Al-Dosari and Musallem Al-Ajmi. Al-Basry also honored Dr. Hadeel Faras from Ahmadi Hospital, Kshmsh bookshop owner Mohammad Jarag, and Designer Zaid Al-Hassan from the Office Administration Team. The initiative included several schools and was aimed at enhancing the language skills of school staff in teaching children the correct pronunciations of Arabic letters and words. It was held in cooperation with the Department of Educational Activities from the Ahmadi Educational Zone and Kshmsh Creative Productions. R&D Group Holds Meeting for TLs & Employees Discussions on Kuwaitization and future challenges were held In the presence of R&D Group Manager Jamal Al-Homoud and a number of Team Leaders from the Group, the R&D Group held a meeting for its various teams which discussed the importance of Kuwaitization and the challenges that this initiative currently faces. Discussions also focused on ways to overcome a number of challenges through collaboration, in addition to supporting KOC plans to increase production by facilitating the operations of other teams through technological support and the utilization of the most current methodologies. The meeting also discussed the value of technology for KOC s operations, how to reduce and avoid risks, and how to enhance the work environment and remain innovative throughout all areas of KOC s operation. Furthermore, those in attendance discussed the Group s journey since its establishment to the present day, as well as future plans and aspirations.
7 Fields Development Team Honors Senior Geologist Manager Fields Development Group (WK) attended the ceremony The Fields Development Group (WK) recently organized a ceremony to honor Senior Geologist T. K. Banerjee from the Fields Development Team (Umm Gudair) after he completed 20 years of service to KOC. Manager Fields Development Group (WK) Issa Al-Maraghi, TL Fields Development Team (Umm Gudair) Hussein Al-Ajmi, and a host of employees attended the ceremony, which was held at the KOC Office Complex in Ahmadi. Both the Manager and Team Leader delivered speeches in which they commended Banerjee s dedication to the Company throughout his career and service. At the end of the ceremony, Al-Maraghi presented a token of appreciation to Banerjee, who expressed his appreciation for this generous gesture and expressed his gratitude for the time he spent at KOC. KOC Holds Meeting with Gust Both sides discussed methods of collaboration and coordination As part of its effort to enhance cooperation with local academic institutions, KOC recently held a meeting with the Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) to discuss matters of coordination. The meeting was held under the sponsorship of Ahmad Al-Jasmi, R&D Group Manager, and was attended by Abdullah Al-Otaibi, TL Planning & Support, and Salah Abdulmalik, TL Projects Management, who met with GUST President Prof. Waleed Bu Hamra and GUST s Advisory Committee member Prof. Joseph Smith. The two sides discussed signing a collaboration agreement on scientific research and innovation which would oversee the exchange of expertise related to laboratory design and construction, as well as enhancing the innovative culture within KOC. Furthermore, KOC offered to aid GUST in designing an academic curriculum for the engineering faculty, which the university plans to initiate within the next two years, as well as training programs for its students. The meeting was concluded by agreeing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding in the near future.
8 KOC Launches SMS Automated System for Employees Project was launched by the HR Teams Committee The committee consisting of HR teams, the Exploration & Gas Directorate, and the System Solutions Team recently launched the SMS automated system for mobile phones for employees working in shifts. During the event that was organized on the occasion, TL HR (S&EK) Khalid Al-Juaib commended the efforts of all relevant teams. He highlighted the interest and coordinated action of the employees who made this system a success. The system became officially operational on December 25, 2018. Representatives from all involved teams attended the launch event of the system. This system is designed to notify employees in shifts with information related to their daily tasks, in addition to information related to overtime, leaves, etc. through Oracle. R&D Group Completes Surface Water Management Project Project aims to tackle several operational challenges Under the supervision of R&D Manager Ahmad Al-Jasmi, the R&D Group recently completed an Integrated Surface Water Management project that addresses a number of operational challenges. The Group studied three water handling sites in NK, WK, and S&EK in collaboration with KISR-PRC and Oil Plus (UAE) before making recommendations to optimize the water treatment, including filtration technology, novel bulk water handling, and chemical evaluation effectiveness, among others. There are many components to integrated water management, including the treatment of produced water, facilities optimization, and management of injected water. The main objective of this project is to study three sites, namely the Central Injection Pump Facility (NK), Minagih Water Injection Plant (WK), and the Effluent Water Disposal Plant II (S&EK) to provide an integral strategy to optimize the treatment and handling of high volumes of effluent water.
