This specialty track will use sprts as a vehicle fr building character and cmmunity, and helping participants t create a psitive culture f sprts at their camps. - Submitted by Mara Berde Sprts, Character Develpment Yu will learn t recgnize the elements f sprts that peple lve and hate, in rder t think abut remving the negative elements frm sprts at camp and making sprts a psitive experience fr everyne. Yu will gain experience speaking in frnt f grups and yu will practice leading and caching their peers. Lastly, yu will learn hw t design (r re-design) sprts and games t achieve certain utcmes, such as building cmmunity, increasing self-esteem, reslving cnflict, r teaching cmmunicatin skills. Crnerstne Fellws (2 nd r 3 rd year camp cunselrs) wh maybe be leading sprts prgrams at their camps; between 10 and 40 participants 90 minutes TBD General supplies: flip chart paper and markers, name tag stickers, sharpies, bandanas, index cards, pens, scratch paper, Making Mensches peridic table. Sprts equipment: Frisbees, basketballs, ftballs, sccer balls, ddgeballs, hula hps, gaga ball, flat cnes, pinnies, inflatable dice, pump (fr balls and dice), access t ther miscellaneus sprts equipment is ideal This sessin will be held bth utdrs and indrs (r smewhere utside with chairs r benches fr seating.) The active sprts prtins will be held n the sccer field, basketball curt, and gaga curt. Team Building thrugh Sprts (25 min) Each Specialty Track sessin will begin by playing a different sprt. Begin with nametag stickers, warm up (run, stretches), verview f the rules f the game, divide teams, and play. The gal is t bring the grup tgether, and t serve as a shared experience upn which will be able t base the rest f ur learning. The experience f playing Ultimate Frisbee tgether n Day 1 is meant t evke a variety f emtins in varius participants -- feelings f cmfrt and discmfrt; satisfactin and dissatisfactin; cnfidence and insecurity. Using these persnal and shared experiences, we will create a cmmn language and be able t dive int ur ultimate gal f making sprts at camp a pwerfully psitive experience fr each participant, regardless f their ability, experience, r interest in sprts. Day 1: Ultimate Frisbee Days 2 & 3: Fellws chice (basketball, sccer, flag ftball, gaga, ddgeball) Playing Tgether (25 min) Day 2 will be a different sprt, chsen the previus day by the grup. After playing tgether, we will d anther emtinal critique n hw that experience felt, cnsidering the elements frm the previus day. Grup icebreaker will be saying yur name, camp, and favrite athlete. If everyne desn t knw each ther s name, play name ball game. Befre mving n, recap the previus day and lay ut what we will accmplish tday. Sprt System re-design (25 min) Nte: The Changing the Game Prject -- and the framewrk f Sprt System re-design -- was created by Up2Us Sprts, Edgewrk Cnsulting, and the Bstn University Schl f Educatin. This sectin is intended t be taught at Crnerstne fr the purpse f prfessinal develpment f Crnerstne Fellws. It shuld nt be reprduced r replicated. Intrduce participants t Sprt System re-design. Rules: f the game r cntest 4. Rles: f all the participants (players, caches, fans, referees) 5. Structure: f the league/cmpetitin Divide the grup int 5 grups, each ne taking ne f the abve dmains. Facilitatr will pass ut mre infrmatin n each dmain, with guiding questins fr their brainstrming. The brainstrming will include bth the re-design idea as well as the utcme. (The utcme is what will change as a result f the re-design.) Each f the grups will have becme the experts n that particular tpic, and will be respnsible fr sharing the infrmatin and examples f re-design and utcmes with the rest f the grup.

Same Game, Different Outcme (45 min) Anther way t lk at re-design is t think abut the utcme and re-design in rder t achieve that utcme (instead f randmly re-designing like we were previusly ding.) Nw we are ging t take the 4 games we played yesterday and re-design them t achieve specific utcmes. In 4 grups, participants will re-design these cmmn camp games t achieve the fllwing utcmes. Everyne will then get t play each game and assess its re-design, ffering feedback t the small grup. 1. Gaga 2. Grup icebreaker will be saying yur name, camp, and if yu culd be a famus athlete, wh wuld yu be, which sprt wuld yu play, and which team wuld yu play fr. Befre mving n, recap the previus day and lay ut what we will accmplish tday. Sprt re-design Lab (55 min) Participants will spend the majrity f this sessin preparing fr camp. In rder t break them int small grups, have each participant share what they d like t fcus n, and grup them accrdingly. Grups shuld be n mre than 4 peple (3 is preferable). Make a large sign up sheet with each grup and their tpic. Using the lists we created n day 1 (sprts prgrams at camp, and elements f sprts that peple dn t lve list), cmbined with the Making Mensches peridic table, participants will think critically abut their rle this summer and what they hpe t accmplish in that rle. They will have time t plan sprts and games in advance. A list f guiding questins will be prvided, as well as a prgram template t serve as a guide in their planning prcess. After each grup is dne planning, they can cllect the materials and set up their field/space. The rest f the time will be used fr mdel teaching s that the grups can practice and receive feedback frm their peers. Clsing Circle (15 min)

In the last clsing circle, everyne will reflect n hw the entire experience was fr them. D they see sprts in a new way? D they have a plan fr hw sprts can be used t achieve certain utcmes at camp? Pass arund a sheet fr peple t pt-in t email list r Facebk grup where we can share ideas, resurces, challenges, etc. This Specialty Track is intended fr Crnerstne Fellws t develp their skills in thinking abut sprts at camp and hw we can use them t achieve certain utcmes with ur campers r cmmunity. While the prgram as a whle is nt meant t be replicated at camp, the sprts and games that the Fellws create while participating in this wrkshp can (and shuld) be used at camp.
