What is a Digital Built Britain?

Using digital information to better design & build, and operate & integrate our built environment Flow of information Images reproduced with the permission of BEIS

Digital Built Britain a shifting focus from using data to reduce the Capital Costs of built assets. Flow of information Today s focus on Capital Expenditure Images reproduced with the permission of BEIS

to using data to optimise Total Expenditure through-life. Flow of information Add Operating Expenditure to consider Total Expenditure Today s focus on Capital Expenditure Images reproduced with the permission of BEIS

towards using data to optimise the services that are delivered depending upon the built environment. Flow of information Consider the provision of Services that depend upon the built environment Add Operating Expenditure to consider Total Expenditure Today s focus on Capital Expenditure Images reproduced with the permission of BEIS

to the ways that citizens use and interact with the data that enables quality of life in digital built Britain Flow of information Consider the needs and wants of Citizens driving the specification, delivery, monitoring and management of Services Consider the provision of Services that depend upon the built environment Add Operating Expenditure to consider Total Expenditure Today s focus on Capital Expenditure Images reproduced with the permission of BEIS

So we will consider the citizen, using integrated services, based on built assets, enabled by data Flow of information Consider the needs and wants of Citizens driving the specification, delivery, monitoring and management of Services Consider the provision of Services that depend upon the built environment Add Operating Expenditure to consider Total Expenditure Today s focus on Capital Expenditure Images reproduced with the permission of BEIS

Technical drivers towards a digital built Britain Flow of information

Enablers of a digital built Britain Technology alone is not enough to deliver change. The journey towards a digital built Britain will be enabled by: Education & training Industry, policy maker & academic engagement International export of skills, standards and technology Policy development Certifications, regulation and standards Case studies and demonstrators from research & industry Improved data governance and ethics Improved contract and procurement law Management and organisational change.

The Centre for Digital Built Britain s Mission To develop and demonstrate policy and practical insights that will enable the exploitation of new and emerging technologies, data and analytics to enhance the natural and built environment, thereby driving up commercial competitiveness and productivity, as well as citizen quality of life and well-being.
