Entry Rules Please read the Entry Rules carefully as they have changed this year. 1. Because of the limitations of the space for display an overall total of four (4) items per person will be accepted for judging, but only one (1) entry per class, as an exhibitor cannot compete against himself. 2. Work must be of the artist exhibiting, no teacher assisted work 3. All work must be original. Art reproduced or rendered from the works of masters, from advertisements, materials from published sources, or from widely circulated photographs (other than the artist s own photos) is not original. 4. Three-dimensional artwork cannot exceed 24" in any direction, unless approved by Competitive Exhibit Coordinator. Judging & Awards The Fair ensures that the judges we employ are knowledgeable in the division in which they are judging and will be impartial. Judging will be done using a scorecard to assist in keeping the decisions as objective as possible. Judges reserve the right to decide proper classification of entries. The decision of the judges are final. If, at the Judge s discretion, an entry does not merit a placing, the Judge shall give no award under any circumstance. This rule applies whether there is one or more exhibits in the Class. Awards Information First Place State Fair Ribbon $12 Second Place State Fair Ribbon $7 Third Place State Fair Ribbon $4 Honorable Mention Ribbons may be awarded, at the discretion of the judges. Judging Criteria Originality 30% Impact on viewer, unique approach to subject matter Is there a WOW factor? Execution Quality 30% Technique, craftsmanship, Excellence in skills in the making of the piece Composition 30% Arrangement and balance of visual elements Presentation 10% Prepared and mounted neatly and securely to meet requirements The Youth Art Exhibition will be held in the Florida Center during the Florida State Fair. The exhibit will be open for your viewing pleasure. 15. In keeping with the Florida State Fair s family orientation; items of an offensive, controversial or objectionable nature or subject matter will not be accepted. 2

Preparing Entry for Exhibition Fine Art (2D) Artwork should be framed, matted or mounted. Mat artwork in a standard single weight black or white mat board. By matting your photograph you will protect your artwork during handling at the Fair. See matting instructions for photographs. Framed entries are acceptable, but not necessary. Framed items must be ready to hang using secure screw eyes and wire. Photographs Artwork should be matted or mounted. Photographs must be printed on photo paper (gloss or matte), unless exhibiting in Alternative Process. All photographs must be matted in a standard single weight black or white mat board. The finished size of the mat board must be 11" x 14" (outer dimension). Gallery wrapped canvases should be ready to hang using secure screw eyes and wire. Artwork can be mounted to a heavyweight mat board or similar stiff backing. Leave at least a 1" boarder around the artwork mounted. Recommended for mounting are dry mounting or spray mounting. Examples of wire hangers on frames and canvases Print size(s) shall be no larger than 8" x 10", and be securely mounted in a standard single weight mat board with a backing board and a window cut to fit the size of your photograph. The print is mounted to the back board and the window and back boards are hinged together with paper tape. Prints can also be attached to a board with a hinge mount; the method we recommend involve taping the print into place with folded hinges. Other types of tapes and adhesives, such as masking tape, rubber cement, and glue sticks will lose their adhesive powers over time and will leave a residue that stains the artwork. Artwork can be mounted to a heavyweight mat board or similar stiff backing. Leave at least a 1" boarder around the artwork mounted. Recommended for mounting are dry mounting or spray mounting. 3
