JOINT STATEMENT https://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/press/news/180206 The AF invites the Commission services and national research policy makers and funding programmes to use the outcomes of the RARA to inform their future research agenda setting activities. Furthermore, EFSA and the AF call for more public investment in food safety research, including the formation of strategic partnerships in the area of food safety, such as European Joint Programmes, European Research Infrastructure Consortia (ERICs), and other initiatives. 4

CONSULTATION ON RESEARCH NEEDS CONSULTING with: Scientific Panel members (2015 2018) 43 topics were received (grouped into themes) Panel members and EFSA scientific units EFSA s Advisory Forum (until end of September) EFSA s Scientific Conference 2018, proposals consulted with wider scientific community These streams of input have been collated in a discussion paper for consultation on occasion of the Stakeholder Forum meeting These consultations provide a good basis for EFSA to define its research priorities and needs for Research Programmes and EFSA s Strategy 7
FUTURE RESEARCH STREAMS Improve food safety moving towards alternative and sustainable production systems Development of European Cloud-based integrated data collection, data management, data analysis and reporting system for food safety Pro-actively anticipating impact of innovations and new technologies on risk assessment Building capacity for future multi-disciplinary expertise Social research informing risk assessment and communication 8
RTD WORKSHOP 17 JANUARY 2019 RTD calls for a multi-stakeholder workshop: A robust science and innovation environment for food safety systems of the future (provisional title) 17 January 2019. A workshop to: discuss the food safety system of the future the possible needs for action. Stakeholders will explore options and opportunities for: The possible creation of a European research infrastructure/platform aligning relevant players in the food safety area. 9
