These will be referred to as the Angled Border. Make 2 Make 14 Step 3: Sew the Angled Border pieces together as illustrated, paying careful attention to the orientation. Sew the side pieces to the quilt center fi rst, then the top and bottom pieces, pressing all toward the angled border. page 4

Press all seams to one side. Cut the strip pieced unit into 3-1/2 wide units. Step 5: Sew the units from Step 4 together, along the short sides, until there are two units comprised of thirteen pieces and two units comprised of twenty-three pieces. Some pieces from the strip pieced units will need to be separated with a seam ripper to achieve the exact number needed. This will yield: two side units 3-1/2 x 46-1/2 two top and bottom units 3-1/2 x 26-1/2 Step 6: Sew a 46-1/2 unit from Step 5 between a 46-1/2 Fabric F and Fabric G strip. Cut along the line and press the seam to one side, creating two HSTs. Trim to 6-1/2 square. Place a 6-1/2 Fabric D square RST with each of the HSTs. Repeat the HST process with both blocks, being sure to place the marked line perpendicular to the seam on the HST. Trim each of the four resulting blocks to 6 square. Wrong side of Fabric D Wrong side of Fabric D Wrong side of Fabric B Marked diagonal - Stitch 1/4 on either side Trim to 6-1/2 square Marked diagonal - Stitch 1/4 on either side Trim to 6 square Step 8: Gather one block from Step 7, 3 x 6 Fabric H rectangles and one 3 Fabric E square. Sew together into two rows of two to create the corner blocks, pressing seams to one side. Note the orientation of each of the four blocks- there are two blocks of each orientation. Step 9: Sew one block from Step 8 to each end of a top/bottom Strip Pieced Border unit. Note the orientation of the blocks in the illustration. Press seams away from the blocks. Repeat with the remaining top/bottom border piece. Step 10: Sew the side Strip Pieced Border units to the sides of the quilt. Press toward the border.
