BO78 REMOVAL OF SAFETY PAD (See page BO76, 77) 1. DISCONNECT BATTERY CABLE FROM NEGATIVE TERMINAL 2. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL (See page SR3) 3. REMOVE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT PILLAR GARNISH (See steps 1 on page BO48) 4. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX (USA) (a) Remove five screws and the rear console box. (b) Disconnect the connectors. (a) Remove four screws and the rear console box. (b) Disconnect the connectors. 5. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE BOX Remove two screws and the front console box. 6. REMOVE ENGINE HOOD RELEASE LEVER Remove two screws and the engine hood release lever.
BO79 7. REMOVE LOWER FINISH NO. 1 PANEL (a) Using a screwdriver, pry out the No. 1 panel speaker. (b) Using a screwdriver, pry out the two panel hole covers. (c) Remove five bolts and pull out the lower finish No. 1 panel. (d) Disconnect the speaker connector. (e) (w/ A/C) Disconnect No.5 heater register duct. (a) Remove four screws and pullout the lower finish No. 1 panel. (b) Disconnect the speaker connector. (c) (w/ A/C) Disconnect No.5 heater register duct. 8. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVERS (USA) Remove seven screws and the steering column covers. Remove four screws and the steering column covers. 9. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER FINISH PANEL (a) Using a screwdriver, pry loose the two switches. (b) Disconnect the connectors and remove switches. (c) Remove two screws and pull out the center cluster finish panel. (d) Disconnect the connector.
BO80 10. REMOVE CLUSTER FINISH PANEL (a) Remove seven screws and the cluster finishpanel. (b) Disconnect the connector. 11. REMOVE RADIO Remove four bolts, then disconnect connector and antenna cable. 12. REMOVE STEREO OPENING COVER OR CENTER DIFFERENTIAL CONTROL SWITCH (a) Remove four bolts and cover or switch. (b) (w/ Center differential control switch) Disconnect the connector. 13. REMOVE COMBINATION METER (a) Remove four screws. (b) Disconnect the connectors and remove the combination meter. 14. REMOVE LOWER FINISH NO.2 PANEL with GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR (USA) (a) Remove two screws and striker. (b) Using a screwdriver, pry out the No. 2 panel speaker. (e) Using a screwdriver, pry out two glove compartment plates. (d) Remove five bolts. (e) Remove four screws and pull out the lower finish No. 2 panel with glove compartment door. (f) Disconnect the speaker connector. (a) Remove five screws and pullout the lower finish No. 2 panel with glove compartment door. (b) Disconnect the speaker connector.
BO81 15. REMOVE HEATER CONTROL (a) Remove four screws. (b) Remove the heater control from safety pad and hang it. 16. REMOVE LOWER CENTER FINISH PANEL Remove two screws and the lower center finish panel. 17. REMOVE NO.1 AND NO.2 SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE 18. REMOVE SAFETY PAD Remove five bolts, four connectors and the safety pad.
BO82 HINT: The defroster nozzle has a boss on the reverse side for clamping onto the clip on the body side. Therefore, when removing, pull upward at an angle. 19. REMOVE FOLLOWING PARTS FROM SAFETY PAD (a) No.1 heater register duct (b) No.3 heater register duct (c) Center bracket (d) No.4 heater register duct (e) Defroster nozzle (f) Wire harness (g) No.1 instrument panel register (h) No.3 instrument panel register (i) Nozzle garnishes INSTALLATION OF SAFETY PAD (See pages BO76 and 77) INSTALL SAFETY PAD PARTS BY FOLLOWING RE- MOVAL SEQUENCE IN REVERSE
