Materials needed: U.S. 13 (9.00 mm) 24 or 32 inch circular needle {longer needle needed for larger sizes}. U.S. 13 (9.00 mm) 16 inch circular for cowl neck Super bulky weight yarn (300 yards size 2, 315 yards size 3/4, 375 yards size 5/7, 470 yards size 8/10, 590 yards size 11/13, 680 yards size 14/16, 770 yards size S/M, 860 yards size L/XL) Bernat Softee Chunky yarn used 1 inch buttons (for cowl neck) {4, 6, 6, 8, 8, 10, 10, 12} Stitch markers Tapestry needle Gauge: Gauge swatch for U.S. 13 (8.5 sts/13 rows = 4X4 square in stockinette) The is made in one piece from front to back. The cowl neck is added once the pullover is bound off. Sweater sizes: 2, 3/4, 5/7, 8/10, 11/13, 14/16, S/M, L/XL Note: Pictured is size 5/7 on a 5.5 year old child. Starting with the U.S. 13 (24 or 32 inch circular needle). I prefer to knit flat on a circular needle, however this can be done on straight needles if prefer. Cast on as follows: 2: 41 stitches 3/4: 45 stitches 5/7: 51 stitches 8/10: 55 stitches 11/13: 61 stitches 14/16: 65 stitches S/M: 71 stitches L/XL: 75 stitches Page 2

Row 4 (wrong side): k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, purl to last 5 sts, k1, p1, k1, p1, Repeat rows 3-4 until piece measures from neck opening to working row {making sure to end with Row 3}: 2 approx. 10.5 from neck opening to working row. 3/4 approx. 12.5 from neck opening to working row. 5/7 approx. 14.5 from neck opening to working row. 8/10 approx. 16.5 from neck opening to working row. 11/13 approx. 18.5 from neck opening to working row. 14/16 approx. 20.5 from neck opening to working row. S/M approx. 23.5 from neck opening to working row. L/XL approx. 24.5 from neck opening to working row. Note: If you decided to make the piece longer or shorter when working the Top front you will just want to make sure and work the back to the same length when folded in half, stopping prior to the ribbed bottom {make sure to end with a Row 3 last worked}. Bottom back rib: Row 1 (wrong side): *k1, p1, repeat from * to last stitch, Row 2 (right side): knit Row 3 (wrong side): *k1, p1, repeat from * to last stitch, Row 4 (right side): knit Row 5 (wrong side): *k1, p1, repeat from * to last stitch, Bind off all stitches as follows: *k2togtbl (knit 2 together through the back loop), place the stitch from the right needle to the left needle, repeat from * all across. Break yarn and weave in all the ends. The Velvet Acorn Designs Cowl neck: With the U.S. 13 (16 inch needle), pick up stitches around the neck opening. Picking up (38, 38, 42, 42, 46, 46, 50, 50 sts) Page 5

Place marker and join to begin working in the round. Round 1: *k1, p1, repeat from * all around. Round 2: purl Round 3: *k1, p1, repeat from * all around. Repeat rounds 2-3 until the cowl measures from picked up stitches to working round: 7 inches (2) 8 inches (3/4) 9 inches (5/7, 8/10) 10 inches (11/13, 14/16) 11 inches (S/M, L/XL) Note: Length is easily adjusted by adding or removing rounds in the cowl neck repeats. I also tend to work with a slightly looser tension in the round vs. flat so I kept with the same needle size, however you can go up a needle size if the cowl neck seem to be working up to snug. Bind off all stitches as follows: *k2togtbl (knit 2 together through the back loop), place the stitch from the right needle to the left needle, repeat from * all around. Break yarn and weave in all the ends. Finishing: You can now add the 1 inch buttons along the two sides of the pullover, using the buttonholes opposite the side the buttons will be attached for placement. Approx. finished measurements: Width: 25, 26, 28, 29, 31, 32, 34, 35 inches Length: 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 50, 52 inches Cowl circumference: 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24 inches Cowl length: 7, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10, 11, 11 inches Page 6
