OSUIT ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES FUELING THE FUTURE Pipeline Integrity Natural Gas Compression Instrumentation INGAA Foundation 2013 Annual Meeting

OSUIT- Present In 1946, OSUIT was purchased from the military, as a military hospital. That year, it s mission changed from medically serving our nation s returning injured World War II veterans, to retraining our injured veterans with workforce skills so they could return as successful members of society. Since 1946, the mission of providing Excellence in Technical Education has never changed. CAMPUS INTRODUCTION

TODAY: Offer a wide diversity of programs OSUIT- Present GM, Ford, Dodge, Toyota Caterpillar, Kenworth, Aggreko, Komatsu, Southwestern Association, Natural Gas Compression and nearly everything in between. Rolex Watchmaking CAMPUS INTRODUCTION

OSUIT is very Serious about our Technical Training Programs AND our corporate partners are Serious when it comes to working with OSUIT. CAMPUS INTRODUCTION

Sampling: Business & Industry Affiliates CAMPUS INTRODUCTION

NATURAL GAS COMPRESSION Graduates are required to earn 60 hours of department specific coursework (88 total) Since 1999, OSUIT s Natural Gas Compression program has trained students from across the country to analytically diagnose, service and maintain gas compression equipment. Program trains students in: Gas compressor station operation, maintenance and repair Engine operating principles and overhauls Instrumentation, electric motors and motor control Ladder logic and PLC s ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES-NGC

PIPELINE INTEGRITY TECHNOLOGY ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES-PIT

Each year, trillions of cubic feet of natural gas and billions of barrels of liquid petroleum products are delivered safely through the pipeline system in America; the equivalent of approximately 750 tanker trucks hitting the road every 2 minutes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Clearly, pipelines are the safest and most reliable way to move these products. ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES-PIT

The recent introduction of more stringent regulatory control of pipeline operator qualifications dictates the need for educational programs to prepare candidates for those stronger employment qualifications. Marshall C. Honeyman, Operations Advisor ConocoPhillips ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES-PIT

ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES-PIT OSUIT s Pipeline Integrity Technology Program OSUIT s Pipeline Integrity Technology curriculum develop the students skills and knowledge required to be successful in the pipeline industry. Major topics include: Pipelines & Facilities Materials & Components Safety & Project Mgmt. Electrical/Electronics Electrochemistry Corrosion Control Cathodic Protection Integrity Management Design Pipeline Assessment Risk Mitigation Federal & State Regulations Compliance Program includes an internship and culminates with NACE Level 1 Exam preparation.

ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES-PIT OSUIT s and INGAA s Natural Fit for Collaboration #1 Recommended Action for INGAA Foundation Develop materials and methods to quickly increase the industries pool of employees with critical skills. Pipeline integrity planning for maintenance, regulatory compliance, risk management and threat identification is identified as an INGAA Critical Skill. (INGAA Critical Skill Forecast for the Natural Gas Transmission Industry Report) OSUIT s specializes in developing public/private partnerships and providing theoretical and applied learning strategies to help solve industry s workforce development needs, particularly in industry- identified critical skills.

ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES-PIT OSUIT s and INGAA s Natural Fit for Collaboration #2 Recommended Action for INGAA Foundation Collaborate with local or national educational institutions (and specific institutes) to convey the industries need for critical positions. Skilled Trades & Quality Control, and Regulatory & Compliance are two of the top five INGAA identified critical positions. OSUIT s Pipeline Integrity program is designed to prepare graduates with the technical and critical thinking skills necessary to assess and mitigate pipeline risks to reduce both the likelihood and consequences of undesired incidents.

OSUIT s and INGAA s Natural Fit for Collaboration RECRUITMENT: Q.#29. From your experiences with any of the job categories listed below, how difficult has it been over the last two years to hire new employees? It is INGAA s current mission to try to fill these critical need positions. OSUIT s mission is to produce graduates to help you do so. Clearly most Difficult to fill ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES-PIT

ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES-PIT OSUIT s and INGAA s Natural Fit for Collaboration INGAA Foundation Conclusion Now is the time for an investment in workforce planning, knowledge management and skill development. (INGAA Critical Skill Forecast for the Natural Gas Transmission Industry Report) We would like to utilize this opportunity to begin the conversation on how OSUIT can collaborate with you regarding the Pipeline Integrity Technology program and the other programs mentioned to provide a greater number of highly-qualified technicians in the natural gas sector.

Outcomes of possible collaboration with OSUIT & INGAA Foundation joining forces: Collaborate in Knowledge Transfer & Knowledge Management Help beat the Critical Skills Forecast in Pipeline Integrity Management Future View Spring 2017 Develop Next PIM Workforce Questions?
