Franc and Liza filc in cooperation with invite you to take part in EX FILCORE SOLČAVA 2017 Feltmakers Ex tempore on the theme WATER May 20th to June 18th, 2017 INVITATION

Dear feltmakers, We are opening the Contestfor feltmakers, EX FILCORE SOLČAVA. Feltmaking represents a new challenge in creating modern art works using handmade felt. Ex Filcore is meant for all those who are engaged in felting and would like to have opportunity to show their works. While in Slovenia felting is still recognised as craft work we would like to show with this event that felting can also be a means of artistic expression in the domain of textile art. Felting, i.e. using wool together with other materials offers numerous possibilities for creations; it combines elements of canvas painting, collage and sculpturing, and can therefore be compared to any established painters technique. PRE-TRAINING For those who are still beginners in felting, or those who would like to upgrade their knowledge and explore how various effects and textures of felt can be achieved, we are preparing an intensive whole day workshop which will include learning the basic felting techniques and using different materials on the wool base. The workshop will be organised on Saturday, May 20, 2017 in Solčava. For more information please contact Špela Orešnik at 00386-70-870-408. THE MAIN EX TEMPORE EVENT IN SOLČAVA: Feltmakers who would like to make their creations on the spot, at the venue, are invited to come to Solčava between June 16 and 18, 2017 and take part in a three-day event. Bring your materials with you and enjoy working in a group. Programme: Friday, June 16, 2017: arrivals expected by 2 p.m. Guided tour around the place with special emphasis on the topic Water; Visiting different locations, looking for inspirations, and natural materials. Dinner at 6 p.m., planning work, socialising and accommodation in sleeping facilities. Saturday, June 17, 2017: starting work at 9 a.m. choosing the working location (indoors or outdoors) whole-day work on your felt project, with lunch break and dinner at 7 p.m. We expect that by the end of the day projects are almost finished (wet felted and rinsed). Sunday, June 18, 2017: after breakfast you will be able to add final touch to your work and completely finish your project (e.g. needle felting details, embroidering, sewing, etc. ) and have it ready for display. Handing in works by 12,00hrs. Lunch, free afternoon, opening of the exhibition and awarding of prizes at 3,00 p.m. OTHER INFORMATION: The participation fee is 20,00 EUR. It can be paid directly at the workshop on May 20, 2017 or by bank transfer by June7, 2017 at the latest to Franc in Liza filc, Špela Orešnik s. p., Solčava 30a,

3335 Solčava, account number: SI56 6100 0001 4563 733, Delavska hranilnica, with reference: VPISNINA EX FILCORE SOLČAVA 2017. Finished works should be delivered to the Center Rinka Solčava during the event or on Sunday, June 18, 2017 (by noon at the latest). Authors can participate with maximum two works. In case you need the basic felting material, we can provide white or grey local wool (Jezersko-Solčava sheep breed) at the price of 10,00 EUR per 500 gr. It is expected that all felting tools and other felting materials are provided by the authors. The organisers ensure that the works will be treated according to established standards, however the organiser does not take responsibility for any possible damage. The works will be evaluated by Saba Skaberne, academic sculptor, who creates unique sculptures in felt. She acts as fine arts educationalist and runs various workshops in felting and sculpturing. Based on her evaluation of works, three best creations will be selected for awards. The winners of the contest will receive a nice practical award. The author winning the first place will have opportunity to exhibit their works in an independent exhibition in the Centre Rinka. Opening of the exhibition and awards ceremony is scheduled on June 18, 2017 at 3,00 p.m. in the Centre Rinka. The exhibition will be opened until July 25, 2017. The exhibited works will be returned to the authors after closing of the exhibition. The authors can pick them up from the Centre Rinka from July 25 to August 15. After this date the works are considered the property of the organiser. CONDITIONS OF THE CONTEST: Participants can apply for the contest with maximum two works.
