HOLIDAY S HOMEWORK (2018-19) CLASS : V ENGLISH ACTIVITY 1: FIND A PROVERB You may have heard people say, "Too many cooks spoil the broth," and wondered what they are talking about. That is an example of a proverb. It's a saying that has been passed on, generation by generation, from a long time ago. Below are the starts of some proverbs. Find out how they finish and write your answers on a colourful A4 size sheet A stitch in time A bird in the hand Look before You can't teach an old dog Don't look a gift horse Can you find any other examples of sayings or proverbs? ACTIVITY 2 : IMPROVE YOUR HANDWRITING Practice handwriting everyday in Cursive Writing Book. Pages 1 20 ACTIVITY 3 : MAKE A CHART On A3 size sheet, make a chart on Parts of Speech. Follow the instructions given carefully: 1) Make proper borders. 2) Write each part of speech clearly. Continue with the definition. 3) Give one or two examples of each part of speech with colourful pictures.( from old books, magazines or printouts ) 4) Get the sheet laminated after completing your work.

SCIENCE 1. Grow two plants one from a seed and another from seedless plants during your holidays. You will be amazed to see that in case of seedless plants like potato the buds will give rise to a new plant. In case of plants with seed will grow into a seedling. Make a poster on the needs to save wildlife. 4. Our skeleton system has 4 different types of movable joints. Make models of these different types of joints using clay, pipes, straw etc. Or Make a model of the Respiratory system. SOCIAL STUDIES Q1 Prepare a model or draw a map of an imaginary town on A3 sized coloured sheet. Use features like colours, symbols, scale, and direction and mark the following- Name of the town School, hospital Broad road, railway tracks A water body, fields Church, temple Graveyard, house, etc Q2 How much waste does a family produce in a day? Make a note of the contents of the dustbin for a week. Are there vegetable peels, tea leaves, aluminum foil or cans, soft drink bottle and plastic bags? Categories it into the groups of biodegradable and non-biodegradable item. (7 items in each group) How many can be recycled or reused? Find and write at least 4 ways to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle the waste that is generated at your home. Q3 Make a project on natural disasters of 7-8 pages: Give title of your project Design an attractive cover page Index

Mention different types of natural disasters Suggest some measures to prevent or to control it. How to overcome these problems. Take help from books, magazines and internet. Paste related pictures and write a few lines on it. COMPUTER Q1. Write all the shortcut keys which are used in Ms PowerPoint. Use A4 size coloured sheet. Q2. Create a presentation on Olympics 2012. Create slide to tell about the following information: Olympic motto and mascot. Opening ceremony details Different games included in it. Indian gold/silver/bronze final list Closing ceremony details. Take printouts of all the slides and put in a file. Q3. What is internet? Collect the information about any three Web browser. Use A4 size ruled sheet to write. ART AND CRAFT ART BOOK :- Do page no. 34 and 35 in book. SKETCH FILE :- Draw and colour summer scene and rainy scene in your sketch file. Make a poster on MY CLEAN SCHOOL. GENERAL KNOWLEDGE

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: MATHEMATICS Bring holiday home work in a beautifully decorated folder. Parents are requested to only guide their children while doing homework. ACTIVITY 2 (use A-4 sheets to make a project and design a cover page) Visit to different places (at least 4) with your parents for shopping and pay the bill yourself. Make a record of total money spent on shopping.. Example: Name of the shop, Items purchased, total bill, Amount paid by you, Amount returned by the shopkeeper. Also paste the bill along with your project. ACTIVITY 3 (to be done on A-3 sheet as per your roll no.) a) Make Indian and International place value chart (1-7) b) Different types of fractions with the help of pictorial representation (8-15) c) Line, Line Segment, Ray, Point (16-23) d) Roman Numbers (24-31) e) Properties of Factors and Multiples (32-38) ACTIVITY 4 (to be done on A-4 sheet ) The numbers 1 through 12 are really angry! No consecutive numbers want to be next to each other. Can you help them? Write the numbers in the circles so that no line connects two consecutive numbers.
