BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (Draft not to be reproduced as an Indian Standard) Draft Indian Standard STAINLESS STEEL DOOR STOPPERS SPECIFICATION [ICS 91.190] Builders Hardware Sectional Committee, CED 15 Last Date for Comments: 28 February 2019 FOREWORD (Formal clauses will be added later) Door Stoppers with durable rubber ends come in various designs or shapes and are used to protect the wall from being scrubbed so that the wall or the paint does not get damaged. This new standard has been formulated to provide guidance to the manufacturers and users of the stainless steel door stoppers which are viable even in coastal areas and/or in humid weather. The standard covers classification, and requirements relating to materials, sizes, manufacture, finish, sampling and criteria for conformity, packing and marking of the door stoppers For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 'Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)'. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (Draft not to be reproduced as an Indian Standard) Draft Indian Standard STAINLESS STEEL DOOR STOPPERS SPECIFICATION [ICS 91.190] Builders Hardware Sectional Committee, CED 15 Last Date for Comments: 28 February 2019 1 SCOPE This standard covers requirements on materials, dimensions, manufacture and finish of stainless steel door stoppers. 2 REFERENCES The following standards contain provisions which through reference in the text, constitute provisions of this standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision and the parties to agree based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below: IS No. Title 6911 : 2017 Stainless Steel Plate, Sheet and Strip Specification 6527 : 1995 Stainless Steel Wire Rod Specification 6760 : 1972 Specification for Slotted Countersunk Head Wood Screws 3 CLASSIFICATION Stainless steel door stoppers shall be of the following types: a) Single rod door stoppers b) Double rod door stoppers c) Long square rod door stoppers 4 MATERIAL 4.1 The stainless steel for manufacture of door stoppers shall be as given in 4.1.1 and 4.1.2. 4.1.1 Base Plate The stainless steel for base plate shall conform to any suitable grade of IS 6911.

4.1.2 Rod The stainless steel for rod shall conform to any suitable grade of IS 6527. 4.1.3 Rubber The rubber piece attached on the extreme end shall comply the shore hardness 60 ± 5. 5 SIZES 5.1 The sizes of door stoppers shall be denoted by overall height, L as shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and Fig. 3.

5.2 Typical shapes of stainless steel door stoppers are shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and Fig. 3. 5.3 The dimensions and tolerances of various types of stainless steel door stoppers shall be as given in Fig. 1, Fig. 2 and Fig. 3. 6 MANUFACTURE 6.1 General Door stoppers shall be well made and free from flaws and defects of any kind. All the stoppers shall be cut and finished clean and shall be provided with stainless steel rod pressed and riveted strongly to provide proper fitment without any looseness. The rubber part shall be screwed in or suitably fixed with good quality adhesive into the rod to give strong fitment. The rod in the barrel may have a provision of tiny steel ball for the effective movement to avoid free drop of the stopper. 6.2 Screw Holes All the screw holes shall be clean and suitable for countersunk head of woodscrews as given in Fig. 1, Fig. 2 & Fig. 3. (See IS 6760 for screw size) 6.2.1 No of Screw Holes Unless otherwise specified, the door stopper shall have minimum of 4 screw holes in the base plate to have better fitment. 7 FINISH Unless otherwise specified, door stoppers shall be finished satin or bright with smooth surface. 8 SAMPLING & CRITERION FOR CONFORMITY The method of sampling door stoppers and the criterion for conformity shall be as given in Annex A. 9 MARKING 9.1 Each door stopper shall be legibly and indelibly marked with the following: a) Manufacturer name or trade mark; b) Size of the door stopper; and c) Type of door stopper.

9.2 Similar information shall be provided in the delivery advices accompanying the shipment of packed cardboard boxes as well. (see 10.1) 9.3 BIS Certification Marking The door stoppers may also be marked with the Standard Mark. 9.3.1 The use of the Standard Mark is governed by the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. The details of conditions under which a license for the use of the Standard Mark may be granted to manufacturers or producers may be obtained from the Bureau of Indian Standards. 10 PACKING 10.1 Each door stopper duly wrapped in polyethylene or other suitable bag shall be suitably packed in a cardboard box in multiples of 5. 10.2 Each cardboard box shall be marked with the following information: a) Manufacturer s name or trade-mark; b) Type of door stopper; c) Size of door stopper; d) Quantity in the package; and e) Country of origin.

ANNEX A (Clause 8) SAMPLING CRITERION FOR CONFORMITY OF DOOR STOPPERS A-1 SCALE OF SAMPLING A-1.1 In any consignment all the door stoppers of same type, shape, size and manufactured from similar materials under identical condition shall be grouped together to constitute a lot. A-1.2 These stoppers shall be selected at random from at least 10 percent of the randomly selected packages subject to a maximum of three, equal number of stoppers being selected from each such package.
