CSIR PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS CSIR-NISCAIR OPEN DAY 27 September 2016 INDIAN RAW MATERIALS & PRODUCTS EXPO (09:00-13:00 hrs) Although Science is neither of the East nor of the West, but international in its universality, yet India, by her habit of mind and inherited gifts handed down from generation to generation, is specially fitted to make great contributions in furtherance of knowledge Further more As Science and Technology affect lives of ordinary men and women, it is essential for scientists to put across to the people what they are doing and also get to know the thinking and view-point of the people It is what Science Communication means, and it is what we, at CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR), New Delhi, do. Science doesn t stop there at labs, neither in fields. It extends to people at large. Doing science is fruitful only when its end results are communicated to the masses. NISCAIR, a constituent establishment of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) with the mandate of becoming the prime custodian of all information resources on current and traditional knowledge systems in science and technology in the country, and to promote communication in science to diverse constituents at all levels, using the most appropriate technologies, has been serving the people exceptionally since last 6 decades. CSIR-NISCAIR, being one of the leading science publishing houses, disseminates science essentially at popular and scholarly levels. Reputed science magazines such as Science Reporter, Vigyan Pragati and Science-ki-duniya originate from here. Majority of the 18 scholarly peer-reviewed journals periodically published by NISCAIR have international JCR accreditation and rating issued by the Thomson and Reuters, New York and also other reputed international ranking agencies viz. Scimago, as well as the National agencies like NAAS. Almost all NISCAIR Journals enjoy academic recognition by many Universities, both in India and abroad. NISCAIR s encyclopaedic product, The Wealth of India Raw Materials Series, a dictionary of Indian Raw Materials (Plants, Animals and Minerals) is regarded as one of the 70 most significant contributions of CSIR to the people of this country.
