Fast Track Accelerated implementation of materials and surface solutions The vision of the Fast Track project: To increase the competitiveness of the Danish industry and create new as well as maintain existing jobs in Denmark through implementation of advanced materials
Fast Track - Societal partnership supported by Innovation Fund Denmark Fast Track: Rapid problem solving of industry's materials related issues Partners: Siemens Wind Power, Hempel, Terma, Elplatek, FORCE Technology, Teknologisk Institut, DTU and AAU. Overall budget 60 MDKK over 3,5 years, hereof 35 MDKK from Innovation Fund Denmark. Project duration: 3,5 years from February 2016 July 2019 http://innovationsfonden.dk/da/case/samfundspartnerskab-skal-gavneindustrien
Background Call from Innovation Fund Denmark: Given industry s need for solutions to materials challenges, a systematic model is to be established for partnering between enterprises and knowledge institutions to give enterprises easy and direct research assistance for solving materials issues. Many issues will be resolvable using the advanced analysis and measuring equipment already available in Denmark. At the same time, efforts are underway to raise industry s awareness of the potential of using advanced equipment and facilities, including ESS/MAX IV/EXFEL, in the interests of preparing Danish enterprises to make use of the facilities. The partnership will be developed over time into an industry portal proper.
Our approach Ensure easy access to the right experts Ensure easy access to the necessary equipment Short response time Dedicated team of experts with industry project lead to ensure implementable solutions Well defined fast track time line of less than 6 months. www.fast-track.nu
Fast Track - Societal partnership supported by Innovation Fund Denmark Two types of project activities: Fast Tracks: Rapid response to acute materials problems, duration of less than 6 months with cross-organisational expert team. New fast tracks will be started based on needs of industry partners. Open for external problems. R&D tracks covering longer term advanced materials problems Characterization and failure analysis Leading edge protection of wind turbine blades Fracture mechanical properties of ductile iron castings Materials and surface solutions New corrosion and chemically resistant paint systems Next generation of tool coatings for machining composite materials Test, modelling and validation
R&D Platform 1 Understanding critical challenges during operation to identify smart solutions The service life of advanced machinery working in remote locations e.g. wind turbines, radars and ships are determined by the durability of critical components like blades, gears, bearings, fasteners, electrical connectors and paint systems. The frequency of maintenance and repair must be reduced and be planable to avoid costly shutdowns. Further improvements may be obtained by using new advanced materials solutions, enabling lower stress concentrations, more resilient lubrication, improved welding procedures, long-term corrosion and erosion protection, or better utilization of the material properties. Track-A: Leading Edge protection of wind turbine blades Track-B: Fracture mechanical properties of ductile iron castings
R&D Platform 2 Developing next generation advanced materials solutions in partnerships Materials and surfaces are of paramount importance when creating long-lasting maintenance-free solutions leading to new commercial successes. This R&D platform deals with both disruptive innovation as well as fundamental development of next generation innovative surface solutions based on electroplating, thermal spraying, thermochemical treatment, PVD and new paint formulations through three R&D tracks. Track-C: Development of new C5 coating system Track-D: New chemically resistant paint systems Track-E: Next generation of tool coatings for machining composite materials
R&D Platform 3 - Facilitating validation of new materials and applications Materials used in products are subjected to mechanical, chemical and physical loads, hence, materials properties must be tested in complex and relevant loading situations. Reliable models that can predict properties or reduce test complexity are essential to reduce validation costs and increase reliability so that the final product can meet customer demands. The purpose of the R&D platform is to strengthen these activities and create a national service for testing, modelling and validation in connection with the Advanced Materials Portal.
