Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center and Skylake Galleries present Workshop with John Guernsey Handling Complex Painting Subjects with Ease Using the plein air approach, (whether studio, or on site), create dynamic and believable paintings while gaining new insights and skills in color mixing, light and shadow theory, and brushwork. Gain confidence in the painting process, from start to finish, and learn ways to handle complex subject matter with great ease and simple gestures. Through a variety of lecture, demonstrations, enjoyable practice studies, and one-on-one assistance, you will be challenged to apply some unique techniques, and to think in new ways about oil painting. Expect a focused, yet relaxed, atmosphere with lots of fun and camaraderie. The workshop, a combination of lecture and demo, will be April 12, from 9:00am to 4:00 pm and requires pre-registration with SNCA by March 22, 2019. Cost is $95 upon registration. Limited to fifteen participants. Further information and recommended supply list will be emailed to you after your registration is received. Originally from southern California, contemporary landscape artist John Guernsey currently resides in Georgia. Although known mainly for his plein air work, he is gradually moving to include more large studio paintings. His work reveals a keen observance of atmosphere and light and is inspired not only by nature, but by city life and architecture. Mr. Guernsey maintains a busy schedule of classes and workshops, and regularly participates in nationally ranked plein air festivals throughout the country. Some of his recent plein air awards are: Best of Show/Los Gatos (CA) 2017 and 2014, First Place/Quickdraw-Plein Air Easton 2017, Best of Show Richmond (VA) 2013, and awards of excellence at Carmel (CA) 2017, 2016 and 2014. Mr. Guernsey was selected as a Master Artist, teaching at the 2018 'Plein Air South' in Florida, and is scheduled to return in 2019. The Quinlan Visual Arts Center in Gainesville, GA, is currently featuring his work in a one man show from 12/18 through 2/19. Mr. Guernsey is currently represented by SkyLake Galleries in North Georgia. https://www.skylakegalleries.com/artists- 1/#/john-b-guernsey/
