FEBRUARY 2016 NOTE CHANGE IN COMPETITION DATE: FEBRUARY 22, 2016 COMPETITION THEME: OPEN The new site is now ready to accept your entries. Entries must be uploaded no later than midnight on February 15th but it would be wise to not wait until the last moment since this is a new website and competition program. FEBRUARY 8, 2016 NEXT PRESENTATION: JIM HARDIMAN Jim Hardiman presents RAW To Ready Digital cameras offer several formats in which we can save our images. Most of us either choose JPEG or RAW. We are often told that we should be saving our images in RAW format to get the best quality, but many of us have no idea why it offers an advantage. RAW formats do have their disadvantages, but for most of us, the advantages outweigh them. This presentation is about demystifying the RAW image format and taking your images from RAW to Ready. 2015-2016 Competiton Schedule: April 11 - Macro June 13 - Story Telling August 8 - Open Go to the Orlando Camera Club Website http://www. orlandocameraclub.com/. You will have to log in and go to the Competitions link, located in the Member Area drop down menu. You will have to register to be eligible to enter images into the competition. This is a new feature of the new website. It s guaranteed if you co-host that we will do the Shootout on a day you re available! Shootouts are for Members in good standing. Please use the Facebook Event section to RSVP for each Shootout. Use this link... OCC EVENTS... to see all upcoming events on our Facebook page. If you do not have a Facebook account, then you can email your response directly to me. I hope you ll consider joining us for one of our upcoming outings. FEBRUARY 13 @ 7:30 am OCC Shootout: Gatorland Bird Rookery 7:30 AM - 10:30 AM Long lenses are not required for shooting at Gatorland. We will meet at the SOUTH gate at 7:30am to purchase a Photographer s Pass - $20 per person (cash). Early admittance closes at 8am. The famous Gatorland Bird Rookery was created in 1991 as an alligator breeding marsh. This unique habitat has grown into one of the largest and most accessible wading bird rookeries in Florida. Today, this area provides protected nesting, foraging, and roosting area to over 20 different species of birds, many of which are listed as Endangered or Species of Special Concern. Gatorland s boardwalks provide birders and photographers with close access to these incredible birds, allowing people to safely observe them and capture stunning photographs. Novice Group - February 22 The Novice Group meets on the 4th Monday of each month at 5:30 in the Maple Room at the Marks Street Senior Center. All paid Orlando Camera Club members are welcome to attend. We have presentations and workshops on topics that would be of interest to newer photographers. Join us for some photography education and stimulating discussions. Presented by Dave Wood & Mike Adkins If you need further information please email novicegroup@orlandocameraclub.com MARCH 11 @ 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm OCC SHOOTOUT: TICO Warbird Airshow Cost: $18 Join OCC member co-host, Chuck McLaughlin and Julie on the opening day of the annual TICO Warbird Airshow in Titusville. For those who know they will be going, it s best to get advance tickets from the website and save. However, anyone can make up their mind to go at the very last minute (and join our rendezvous or simply drive over themselves) since tickets are always available at the gate. Chuck has attended before and suggests that those who wish, to rendezvous at the Senior Center at 10:30AM. We can leave at 11AM and easily get there by Noon. First thing we should do is take chairs, grass blankets, etc over to the viewing field and leave them there. No one should bother that stuff but camera bags, etc should be carried with you or left in the car. We should be there early enough to get our stuff right up to the front of the field next to the taxiway best for photography. The flightline and many other ground displays will be open from 12 Noon to 3PM. When it closes, many will go over to the field and have a mid-afternoon lunch (or early dinner). The taxiway is right in front of the field and all aircraft pass by going and coming from the runway. In the back of the field will be food vendors plus many other vendors selling interesting war memorial mementos, books, paintings, etc. The air show will start at 3:30PM so there will be a lot of daytime flying as well. Included in the daytime show will be two Air Force aerobatic teams. The show may go as long as 7:30PM followed by fireworks and what they call A wall of fire at the end. These shows are very well narrated on speakers that you can actually hear and understand! ORLANDO CAMERA CLUB... PAGE 2
