page 2 Antal K. BEJCZY Dr. Antal K. Bejczy, a national of the United States of America, is a Senior Research Scientist in the Telerobotics Research Program at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California Institute of Technology (CIT) in Pasadena, California. He is also an Affiliate Professor in Systems Science and Mathematics at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He received his degree in electrical engineering at the Technical University of Budapest, Hungary, in 1956, and a Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Oslo, Norway, in 1963. He spent three years at CIT as a NATO Senior Research Fellow working on optimal control and non-lineal filtering problems. He joined JPL in 1969. Since 1971 his major research interests have been robotics and advanced teleoperation. He has published over 150 papers in these areas, mainly on topics in sensing, dynamic modeling, control, and man-machine interaction, including telepresence and virtual environments. He holds six United States patents in robot sensing, control and computing, and has received more than 40 NASA Technical Brief Awards. He was the Principal Investigator of a robot arm force-torque sensor flight experiment on the space shuttle in 1994. He was Chairman of the IEEE Control System Society Technical Committee on Robotics and Automation from 1983 to 1985. He was General Chairman of the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation in 1986, and President of the IEEE Council of Robotics and Automation in 1987 and helped transform the Council to the current Robotics and Automation Society. He served as an ADCOM member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society from 1989 to 1992, and was re-elected for the time period of 1994-96 and 1997-99. He became an IEEE Fellow in 1987. He received the 1987 Jean Vertut Award of SME and RI for remote application of Robotic Technology and the NASA Exceptional Service Medal in 1991. He was the General Chairperson of the 8th International Conference on Advanced Robotics in 1997 (ICAR 97). Gordon CUMMER Gordon CUMMER is the Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Industrial Innovation Centre,Waterloo. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba and his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Western Ontario. He has had substantial experience as a project manager in several areas of technology and new product development. In his 13 years at Electrohome Ltd., Edwards of Canada, and Canadian General Electric, he was responsible for engineering management, quality control, marketing management, market research, market planning and product research and development.

page 3 Mr. Cummer is a member of the National Advisory Board for the Canadian Technology Network, the Management Advisory Board of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office the Advisory Group of the Institute for Innovation Research at the University of Waterloo and the Advisory Board of the Ontario Engineering Competition. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Technology Development Incorporated, the Opportunities Unlimited Fund and of the Innovation Centre. He is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario. He has written a monthly column on innovation for a Waterloo region business publication and has presented a number of seminars and workshops on innovation in small business. Judit HAJDÚ (Mrs.) Judit Hadjú graduated in electrical engineering at the Technical University of Budapest, Hungary, in 1976. She spent two years at Medicor Research Institute, Budapest, as researcher in the field of electro-medical devices and six years at Transelektro Foreign Trade Company, Budapest, where she was responsible for selling electrical equipment for power stations. She joined the Hungarian Patent Office in 1984 and worked as an examiner in the field of program controlled systems. Two years later she became Head of the Patent Section for Electricity and Physics. In 1987, she obtained a qualification as patent attorney. Since 1994, she has been Head of the Patent Department for Mechanics and Electricity. Farag MOUSSA Dr. Farag Moussa, a national of Egypt, first worked with the Egyptian Foreign Ministry (1951-57) and the League of Arab States (1958-69), as a diplomat and a public relations officer. In 1970, he joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) where he worked for 20 years. Although responsible for External Relations and United Nations affairs, Dr. Moussa invented a new activity in WIPO: the promotion of inventors and inventions. He has been President of IFIA since October 1990. Dr. Moussa is the author of 16 books (five on diplomacy and 11 on women inventors published in seven languages). He has received several distinctions, in particular the Gold Medal from the Egyptian Patent Office (1984), the WIPO Gold Medal (1994) and the Middle Cross of the Merit Order (Hungary, 1996).

page 4 Kari SIPILÄ Kari Sipilä, a national of Finland, is the Managing Director of the Foundation for Finnish Inventions, which supports and finances the development of inventions as well as markets them. Mr. Sipilä has a Licentiate of Science Degree from Helsinki Technical University and before his present position he worked in industry and financing in Finland, Saudi-Arabia, Switzerland and the United States of America. Zsuzsanna TÖRÔCSIK (Mrs.) Zsuzsanna Törôcsik is the Head of Electronic Publishing Section of Hungarian Patent Office. She received her degree in chemical engineering at the Technical University, Budapest, Hungary, in 1984 and she joined the CHINOIN Pharmaceutical Ltd., in 1984, where she became a patent attorney. In 1986 she joined the Gedeon Richter Pharmaceutical Ltd. and obtained a qualification as patent attorney in 1987 and worked in the field of organic chemistry. In 1992 she joined the Hungarian Patent Office and became an information professional. Two years later she became the Head of the Internal Patent Library of the Office. From 1996 to 1997 she was responsible for the Industrial Property Information Section. Since 1997 she has been the head of the Electronic Publishing Section of the Office. She is responsible for managing the production of CD-ROM titles e.g. ESPACE-PRECES and HUNPATÉKA - Hungarian Patent and Utility Model Database. She is member of the editorial board of The Gazette of Patents and Trademarks - the official journal of the Hungarian Patent Office. She represents the Office at various international forums e.g. WIPO. Mamadou TRAORÉ Mamadou Traoré, a national of Côte d Ivoire, graduated in 1974 as Master of Science from the Polytechnic Institute of Minsk, Byelorussia, with specialization in thermal power engineering. Two years later, he graduated from the Institut National des Sciences Techniques et Nucléaires (INSTN), Gif sur Yvette, France with specialization in the Economics of Research and Development. In 1983, Mr. Traoré became the Founding President of the Ivory Coast Association for Promoting Inventive Activities and Innovation and is still its President today. He is also General Director of the Bureau d Analyse d Ingénierie et de Logiciels (BAILO), a management information system and strategic studies consulting company which he founded in 1987. Mr. Traoré has acted as Counselor to the President of the Congo Republic, General Director of the Pan-African Institute for Innovation Management of the Congo Republic and Head of the Energy Research and Development Program at the Ivoirienne de technologie tropicale, in Côte d Ivoire.

page 5 Ágnes VADÁSZ (Mrs.) Ágnes Vadász acts as an industrial property information counselor of the President of the Hungarian Patent Office. She earned her BS from chemistry and physics in the Eötvös University, Budapest and joined to the National Plant Protection and Soil Conservation Service where she became an information professional. She was responsible for designing, and managing the Hungarian Registered Pesticide Database, where she earned on-line search experience as an on-line moderator and created information retrieval thesauri in different fields. In that period she received her MA in Pesticide Chemistry at the Technical University; Budapest, and another MA in Library and Information Sciences at the Eötvös University, Budapest. In 1991, after having received a Certificate of Advanced Studies at the Library and Information School of Kent State University, she joined the Hungarian Patent Office. She managed the production of CD-ROM titles. She is responsible for managing, designing and organizing the Web site of the Hungarian Patent Office and industrial property databases published on the Web. She is also involved in information policy-making and represents the Office in information technology related matters at different kind of international forums e.g. WIPO. Besides her full time commitment, she taught On-line reference service and CD-ROM in libraries in the Library School of Eötvös University, Budapest and provided other training courses on using on-line search services focusing on agricultural chemical, environmental and medical databases. Vladimir YOSSIFOV Vladimir Yossifov, a national of Bulgaria, graduated from the Institute for Mining and Geology in Sofia in 1968. In 1974, he obtained a diploma as a patent practitioner from the Higher Patent Training School of the Mechanical and Electrotechnical Institute in Sofia, and in 1979, a post-graduate degree in international economic relations from the All-Union Academy of Foreign Trade in Moscow. His professional experience is in the field of industrial property protection and technology licensing, promotion of inventive activity and technological innovation, international trade and government administration. He joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 1981 as a program officer in the Industrial Property Division. In 1992, he became Head of the Development Cooperation Program and Planning Section and since December 1997 he has been Deputy Director of the Division for Human Resources Development and the WIPO Worldwide Academy.
