June 22, 2018 Oakland Art Association ebulletin Dear OAA Members; A week ago, 18 OAA members submitted artwork for the new Chamber Show and the show looks great. Congratulations to Milada Pajaczkowski, John Henry, George Ehrenhaft, and Douglas Thompson for their winning entries! The full Show Catalog is attached, and images of the art are available to view on the OAA website: Oaklandart.org Speaking of members - we have not one, but two new members to welcome into OAA! Benjamin Kelly (please see images of his art attached to this ebulletin) Maria Santo Stefano (please see images of her art also attached to this ebulletin) We have some great shows in coming weeks we all are hoping to meet you both with your art at the take-in(s)! FYI, the OAA Board recently removed the requirement that Membership Applicants have an OAA member listed as a sponsor. A new Membership Roster will include all the new members and will be published in the next month or so. It s all about the Juried show for the next few months, four to go in the next three months! Coming next at 10am on Friday July 6 th we will collect your art for one of our big shows for the year -- the Abstract Show at the Alameda County Law Library. This show is where non-representational artists get the chance to really shine. o Tony Kay did a great job with the flyer for this show see attachment. o Please see the attached Prospectus for the Abstract show for all the details. A little more than three weeks later, on Wednesday August 1st at 10am, bring your art for the Orinda Library Show! This show only comes around every 3 years, so plan to enter this one for sure. o If history holds, this will our biggest show of 2018. This is a big and beautiful space with lots of room for our art. o Orinda is one of the places we can exhibit your 3D art. (please email Jenny (jpkolkhorst@comcast.net) to check details. o Because of the number of entries expected, and because this show only runs for the month of August, the Board decided that the entry fee would be only $5 per entry again this year. o OAA will also be hosting a reception at the Library on Sunday August 5 th between 2:30pm and 4:30pm mark your calendar! o The rules and all the details for Orinda show are also attached to this email. The Oakland Art Association has been invited back this year to display a show in the magnificent Oakland City Hall from September 5th to October 29th, 2018. o This will be a themed show Celebrate Oakland entries will include; cityscape scenes, portraits of people, abstract works, and other compositions depicting Oakland and the adjacent East Bay Cities. (Images of San Francisco, for example are not appropriate for this venue.) o A show with an Oakland theme is perfect for this location, as we will be exhibiting on the third floor of the city hall, next to the Mayor s office, the City Council Chambers, and other important city offices a very high visibility location. o If you haven t been inside the city hall, be advised it is like a palace, a truly

spectacular building. o OAA will also be hosting a reception at City Hall on Tuesday September 11 th between 4pm and 6pm mark your calendar! o More details (including the show pre-registration requirements) are available in the show Prospectus attached to this ebulletin. That will bring us back to the next Oakland Chamber of Commerce Show on Friday September 14 th, details will be in an upcoming ebulletin. The updated Volunteer List for the Abstract and Orinda shows is attached. Thanks, from all OAA members to the volunteers on this list! These shows are a lot of work, and your help makes all the difference! The call for volunteers will go back out in a month or so to work the City Hall show and the September Chamber show, please make time to help if you can!
