Banana Pancakes Jack Johnson EZ Version Tempo: about 115 bpm (swing) Strumming Pattern: this song can be played using all downstrokes. If you don t want to play all downstrokes you can choose to play the song as an overall pattern of: DUDU over and over. Jack Johnson uses his FRETTING hand to perform the mutes in the Kokua Festival video on virtually every upstroke. Here s the link to that video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th5q9-m6t8c Riff 1 (aka riff into A ) Riff 2 (aka riff into G )
Riff 3* (only used in the intro) Riff Into Chorus* (only played at the end of each verse and OPTIONAL) As you can see, this riff is much like Riff 3, but the movement is on the A and D strings instead of the E and A strings. Chords Used: Note: There are a few versions of this song. The album version (In Between Dreams) features Jack Johnson singing Well can t you see that it s just rainin there ain t no need to go outside starting on Riff 3. The live version at Kokua Festival doesn t do this. It just starts with the You hardly even notice..
We will be playing a combination of both versions. We re going to play the official intro, but we re not worried about singing the line from the official version. Instead we re just going to play the intro as shown and go directly into the verse to start singing. The video will show you what I mean. Also, instead of calling each riff 1 or 2 I have now made it easier to remember. In the EZ version below I will be displaying each riff as riff into G and riff into A which tells you the root of the chord we will be walking toward. The riff into chorus is the riff that walks on the A and D string as explained from above. If you don t want to play the little riff into the chorus you don t have to do so. I m not going to do it in the performance, because it s not always played and isn t really necessary for our EZ version.
