Kurtis Tunnell Managing Partner at Bricker & Eckler Kurt Tunnell is the Managing Partner of Bricker & Eckler and serves as the Chair of the Executive Committee. Under Kurt s leadership, the firm has grown its Ohio platform. Kurt also established a leadership program within the firm to grow its leadership capacity and provide opportunities for young partners and senior associates to make early contributions to the firm. Kurt is a passionate advocate for and leader of diversity and inclusion initiatives in the legal profession. Since 2010, he has led the Columbus Bar Association Managing Partner Diversity Initiative, which was recognized with the 2015 American Bar Association Partnership Award. Within the firm and throughout the legal community, Kurt has championed programs and training on implicit bias and the development of effective pipeline and mentoring initiatives. Kurt has extensive experience in Ohio judicial elections. Since the 1998 election cycle, he has been substantially involved in every Ohio Supreme Court biennial election and is also significantly involved in Court of Appeals elections across the state. Kurt serves as legislative counsel to the Association of Ohio Life Insurance Companies, general counsel to the Ohio Manufacturers Association, legislative counsel to the American Insurance Association in Ohio, special Ohio counsel to the National Federation of Independent Business, and as special Ohio counsel to the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. Prior to assuming his position as Bricker s Managing Partner, he was general counsel and parliamentarian to the Ohio Republican Party. Luis Alcalde Counsel of Kegler, Brown, Hill & Ritter Luis M. Alcalde has a deep and varied legal background, including complex civil and criminal litigation, global business and international investigations. Born in Cuba and a native Spanish speaker, Alcalde regularly drafts and interprets Spanish language legal documents and contributes his skill and experience in client negotiations, documents and transactions of a crossborder nature. Luis offers strategic advice to assist in developing global markets with a specific emphasis on Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets. He

counsels organizations of all sizes regarding business establishment, international trade, strategic alliances, FCPA compliance and anticounterfeiting strategies. Alcalde strategically manages and offers advice and solutions regarding domestic and international corporate investigations involving FCPA and other regulatory matters, business due diligence, anti-piracy and counterfeiting. Luis is seasoned in both protracted litigation and alternative dispute resolution techniques. His practice is primarily focused in the areas of international business disputes and complex litigation. Among his many career highlights, Luis was awarded the Army Commendation Medal while serving as a United States Army Captain in the Judge Advocate General s Corps (JAG Corps) where he prosecuted and/or defended over 120 Courts-Martial, provided legal advice to U.S. Army commanders and acted as sole defense counsel for 7,000 infantry troops in West Germany. Alex Shumate Managing Partner at Squire Patton Boggs Alex counsels clients in business regulatory and legislative matters involving local, state and federal governments. Previously, he served as chief counsel and deputy chief of staff to the governor of the state of Ohio and as assistant attorney general to the state of Ohio. Alex has been selected by his peers since 1999 for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, recognizing his legal abilities among esteemed lawyers nationwide. He was named Best Lawyers 2013 Columbus-OH Government Relations Practice Lawyer of the Year. He has also been consistently selected as an Ohio Super Lawyer. Listed sixth in the 2010 compilation of Columbus 100 most powerful business and community leaders, published by Smart Business Columbus, in 2014, he was honored by Smart Business Columbus as a recipient of its inaugural Smart 50 Award, which recognized central Ohio s top 50 executives chosen for their ability to effectively build and lead innovative and smart organizations. His community activities include serving an unprecedented third term on The Ohio State University Board of Trustees as well as on the boards of the Capitol South Redevelopment Corporation and Wexner Center for the Arts. Alex was the recipient of the 2011 United Way of Central Ohio s Key Club Community Leadership Award. He is a former chair of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce and The Ohio State University Board of Trustees.

Robert Solomon Assistant Vice Provost Office of Diversity & Inclusion at The Ohio State University Robert began his legal career as an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Ohio. He also served as a Franklin County Municipal Court Magistrate before joining The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law to work in administration. In 1999, he left the university to work as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Department of Justice. In 2001, he returned to the College of Law to assume the role of Senior Assistant Dean for Admission and Financial Aid and to establish an Office of Minority Affairs within the law school as its Director and Chief Diversity Officer. In 2015, Robert assumed his current role as Assistant Vice Provost in the main University s Office of Diversity & Inclusion. Robert has also been active in the community, serving on various Boards through the years, including the Equal Justice Foundation and the Columbus Academy. He also served on the Diversity Committee of American Bar Association. Robert has been active in the local Bar as well, having served as Chair of the Law School Liaison Committee for the Columbus Bar Association(CBA), the Long Range Planning Committee and the Minority Clerkship Task Force. Robert is a President Emeritus of 100 Black Men of Central Ohio and is the Board Chair Emeritus of the Africentric Personal Development Shop. His past honors include being appointed by former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland to serve on the Ohio Ethics Commission in 2010 and being honored as Alumnus of the year for 2006 by his undergraduate alma mater, David Lipscomb University. Yvette McGee Brown Jones-Day, Partner in Charge of Diversity, Inclusion and Advancement Yvette is a partner at the global law firm of Jones Day specializing in business litigation and appellate practice. She serves as the Partner-In-Charge of Diversity, Inclusion, and Advancement for Jones Day firm wide, representing 40 offices around the world. She was first elected to the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations and Juvenile division in 1992. As lead Juvenile Court Judge, she led the creation of the Family Drug Court and the

SMART Program, a truancy and educational neglect intervention program. She served on the Common Pleas Court until 2002, when she retired from the bench to lead the creation of the Center for Child and Family Advocacy at Nationwide Children s Hospital. Yvette is also an active community and corporate leader. She has served on the board of directors for Ohio University, The Ohio University Foundation, The Ohio State University Alumni Association, Motorist Mutual Insurance Company, M/I Homes Inc., Glimcher Realty Trust, and Fifth Third Bank of Central Ohio. She has been inducted into the Ohio Women s Hall of Fame (2008) and the Central Ohio Business Hall of Fame (2014). Among her many honors are The Ohio University Medal of Merit, The Ohio State University Distinguished Service Award, The Children s Defense Fund Odds Changers Award. The Champion of Children Award, YWCA Woman of Achievement Award, and the Girl Scout Great Award. Marilyn McClure- Demers AVP, Associate General Counsel Nationwide Marilyn serves as Associate Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Corporate and Intellectual Property Litigation at Nationwide and leads the teams responsible for managing and directing strategy for all Corporate and Intellectual Property litigation and the discovery management legal function. She personally represents Nationwide in matters pertaining to the areas for which she is responsible including regulatory or agency matters and class actions. Previously, Marilyn led the teams which managed both Property and Casualty extracontractual litigation and P&C Class action litigation. She also serves on the law department s Diversity and Inclusion Council. Before joining Nationwide, Marilyn served as Employment Law Counsel at Rite Aid Corporation. Prior to that time, she was in private practice in West Virginia, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. Marilyn holds both a BA and JD from West Virginia University, where she serves on the College of Law s Visiting Committee. Marilyn is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a past Fellow of the Leadership Council for Legal Diversity and sits on its Alumni Executive Council. She is a community steward and served as Chair and Founder of the Women s Leadership Network (WLN) for Delaware County, is President Elect for the Ohio Women s Bar Association (OWBA), and serves as Board Chair of the United Way of Delaware County, Ohio.
