It is an opportunity to share your passion, knowledge, and skills with others. We know there is talent out there!

President s Report At our August meeting we welcomed our 75 th member. She lamented that she would be going away the day of quilt market and wouldn t be able to attend. Last week I received an email from her. She said, Thank you for inviting me to join your lovely group. The ladies are friendly, enthusiastic, and talented! I have convinced my husband to delay our trip to Colorado until the afternoon of the 29 th so I may attend the Quilt Market. The August meeting was indeed a lot of fun and it s great to have a newcomer sum up our group in this way. Read further in this newsletter to find out how you can help, what you can take (like bags for customer s purchases, items to enhance displays etc.) Yvonne Holder will collect items for the silent auction. The September meeting will be our annual potluck at the United Church. The parking lot to the west of the building is still not available. You may drop off casseroles, etc. at the small lot to the south and park elsewhere. This would be a good evening to carpool if you can. Thanks to everyone who donated, collected, or transported quilts to the Ruidoso fire victims. There are still many families who have not received a quilt so if you could donate one it would be appreciated. There is also a need for quilting fabrics to send to Juarez. Many women there need the quilts and make them themselves, but don t have the fabric to work with. If you have any from your stash that you would be willing to share, please bring them to the September meeting. There will be some opportunities to give them later in the year if you don t have any at the moment. The October meeting will be on color. The speaker will be Thelma Hahn who really knows about color. The guild is planning a Show and Tell tea at Aspen Ridge on Wednesday, November 28 at 2:00 p.m. The guild will be giving handmade mug rugs as gifts. See Phyllis Holland for more information. Susan and Lyn Library The Guild Library has three new beginner quilting books and 2 new videos. Check them out at the September meeting (pun intended) where we'll also have half of the library books for you to check out. If you have had books for 3 months, please return or renew them at the meeting. Thank You, Evonne and Judy

Treasurer s Report Continued Quilt Market Activities - Instructions for Cashiers and Baggers updated, calculators all tested and ink rollers ordered and installed for printing calculators. I have also sorted through the back year Treasurer records and purged old receipts, cancelled checks, etc for items more than 7 years old. This will allow the Treasurer records to continue to fit into one storage box. I received and filed the form for the LAP Business License for Sept 2012 - Sep 2013. Donna Smith Programs Note: Katy had to move her program to the Nov. Meeting, so I am looking for a program for October. September - United Church Color My World Join us for our annual potluck at the United Church in Los Alamos. Dress in something colorful and bring your fun and playful side! We will show some examples of Mug Rugs and share the instructions for creating one with fun pockets. (If you have made a mug rug, please bring it to share.) October - White Rock Baptist Church We are looking for a cluster that is willing to lead the program this month. It is an opportunity to share your passion, knowledge, and skills with others. We know there is talent out there! November - United Church There is no Such Thing as Ugly Fabric! Why might you consider fabric ugly? The session will help you look at the color, the value, and the scale of the fabric and help you see it from a new perspective. Katy Korkos will lead us in this study of "ugly" fabric and how to put it to good use. Liz Martineau 2012 Donation Quilt The donation quilt will not be raffled at the Quilt Market but instead will be raffled at our October guild meeting. You still have time to pick up more tickets from Dennise Swanson to sell.

Community Service Quilters in Los Alamos have had a busy summer sewing and quilting as well as crocheting lap and bed quilts for the families that lost their homes and possessions in the Little Bear Fire in Ruidoso NM. In July, Nicole Dunn transported 17 quilts from Los Alamos Piecemakers and 32 from the Northern New Mexico Quilt Guild to the Stash Sisters in Ruidoso. They in turn were going to distribute them at their annual quilt show over the Labor Day Weekend. Since we had 163 names on the list, we put out another "call for quilts". In the following month we were able to collect 17 more quilts from LAP members, 12 from RSVP Senior Quilters and 10 from Bethlehem Lutheran Quilters. Santa Fe quilters had a classroom open at the Sewing Center of Santa Fe to assemble and sew an additional 38 quilts. Joan Williams from LAP and Carol Hayes from the Santa Fe Guild agreed to transport almost 80 quilts back down to Ruidoso and were met with a reception hosted by Louise Estep. Eleven other Ruidoso quilters joined in the party to express their appreciation of our efforts and shout out a big Thank You to everyone who donated quilts. I am forwarding a message that Louise sent to Nicole. "Can't thank you enough for being the ambassador of good will and for bringing the quilts to our group to hand out the victims of the Little Bear Fire. You and your group are to be commended for being so selfless, generous, kind and loving to our victims. I am hopeful that the example you are setting will find its way into the hearts of all who hear of it and soon the world will be a better place." Since I last posted the names of quilters that donated comfort quilts the following quilters have participated. Mickey Taylor(4), Nicole Dunn(2), Judy Tessmer (2), Roberta Idzorek (4), Fran Suchocki (2), Marilyn Michel, Deb McLin, Evonne Holder, Sue Frier, Charlene McHale, Emma Mati, sew-a-thon team, Dorothy Smedley, Deb McLin, Deb Claytor, Marilyn Cayton (2) and sew- a- thon team, Joan Williams, Jo Ann Painter, Ann Daley, Fran Suchocki. I also want to thank Bonnie Farmen for sending bedding to Ruidoso and Trish Spillman for delivering four quilts from Kids Quilting For Kids. Deborah McLin So sorry not able to put photos of all the quilts donated (or would take a book).

Countdown to the Quilt Market Everyone has worked hard -- the inventory sheets are in and we re going to have a terrific Quilt Market this year! We ll have lots of wonderful items to sell. I can t wait to see everything! A special thanks to the Jemez Bear Paw guild for joining our Quilt Market efforts this year.

Please don t miss any of the excitement mark your calendars for September 28 (Set up) and September 29 - Quilt Market (10 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. at the Crossroads Bible Church -- next to East Park Pool on East Road.) Jo Beth Steinhaus has filled most of the staffing slots but has a few left. (Thanks, Jo Beth!) Please contact her if you haven t signed up yet. (Phone # 699-2876 or e-mail ziasoul@gmail.com) Remember that everyone who works at the Quilt Market gets to preshop on Saturday morning before we open to the public. That s a nice bonus. Margaret Hendricks has done a great job (as usual) on Market Publicity! She recently sent electronic copies of the flyers via e-mail asking you to post them in your churches, work areas, dentist offices, beauty salons any place that can be seen by others. I hope that each of you has found at least one place to post a flyer. Feel free to post the information on Facebook or any other social media. Let s do everything that we can to get the word out about the Market. We ll have lots of wonderful stuff for sale all we need now are the potential customers. Contact Margaret if you re interested in helping with Publicity. (Phone 662-1660 or bellemere102@gmail.com) Here are some important QM reminders: Bring all sale items and a final copy of your inventory sheets to the Crossroads Bible Church, 97 East Road, Los Alamos on Friday, September 28 between 3:30 and 5:30 p. (The location is listed incorrectly in the Quilt Market packets. I apologize.) As you pack your items for the sale make sure your inventory sheets are accurate. We need guild members to bring stepladders, solid-colored tablecloths, plastic/paper bags and tabletop Christmas trees on Friday. Please also bring any items that can be used for display and decoration like coat racks, etc, There are two ways to donate items to the guild: 1) Jo Ann Painter is organizing a Silent Auction and will be happy to take any donations. The items do not have to be quilt-related. You can contact her at 672-1583 or jpainter@q.com. 2) Donna Smith has volunteered to prepare an inventory sheet for the guild. If you d like to put something in for sale at the Market and donate the proceeds to the Guild, then contact Donna at 575-829-3883 0 or dnt@glenda.com. These items will need to be fabric or fiber related. Contact Dennise Swanson with any questions about the raffle quilt. Check your e-mail regularly we ll send out Quilt Market reminders and announcements through the guild s distribution list. See you at the Market! Libby Carlsten 662-3980
