ISSUE 16, TERM 2 2012 Welcome to the term two class listing for Quintessential Quilts. We have a great range of quilt classes for you this term covering all aspects of quilting., both machine and hand work. Please drop into the shop for a cuppa and have a look at all the beautiful quilts on display. We will be clearing out our range of Kona Cottons. All Plains (except black & navy) will be half the marked bolt price from April 23 rd till sold out. Our new range of plain dyed cottons should be on the shelves in May. We have our Birthday next month. On Saturday the 12 th of May the shop will have been open four years, and to celebrate we are going to have another P.J sale. Requirements for class will only be given out on payment of registration. Class fees are non-refundable. You may transfer to another class up until 7 days prior to scheduled class. Made using half square triangles. 2. Latte with Linda (Beg) $50.00 2 x 2 ½ hrs with Judith Lubieniecki 9.30-12.00 Tuesday May 1 st & 8 th The idea started with a jelly roll but ended up using 12 Fat ¼ s that were a gift from Linda. Use the off cuts to make up a matching pillow. 3. Out of the Square (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Robyn Macdonald 9.30-3.00 Wednesday May 2 nd One simple block that is repeated and twisted as the quilt is assembled. Wander through your stash keeping in mind you will need medium to dark fabrics for your blocks. 4. Asian Placemats (Beg-Int) $50.00 2 x 2 ½ hrs with Sue Drill 9.30-12.00 Friday May 4 th & 11 th They don t have to be Asian, it just depends on your fabric choice. I had this fabric in my stash for ages then one day I knew exactly what I wanted it to be. A set of these would make a great gift to someone special.

Beginners Patchwork (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Sue Drill, 9.30-3.00 Saturday May 5 th This class covers the basics of cutting, stitching and resquaring your blocks and will set you on the path to making many beautiful quilts in the future. A Sewing machine with a ¼ foot, Rotary cutter, Board & Quilters rulers required for class. 6. Tigglywinks (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Kim Pascoe, 9.30-3.00 Monday May 7 th A sweet little quilt suitable to be used as a table topper, wall hanging or make for a sweet little girl. Simple pieced blocks and a little appliqué make this a fun and fast project.. * Pattern purchase is required for this class 8. Leaves in the hearth (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Gayle Jones 9.30-3.00 Wednesday May 9 th Gayle wanted a Christmas quilt because Judith & Jackie both have one. This beauty is what Gayle made for her bed to wear in the festive season, use a jelly roll plus four extra strips and a neutral background. 7. What a Perfect Day (Beg) $100.00 10 x 2 ½ hrs with Kim Pascoe 12.30-3.00 the 2 nd Tuesday of the Month. This term May 8 th & June 12th This quilt is a must for all hand stitchers. It features soft and feminine stitcheries with handmade and hand painted hat buttons. Create this quilt over 10 months. Finishing kits will be available.

Two Simple Table-runners (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Sue Drill, 9.30-3.00 Monday May 14 th A feature fabric, a contrast fabric or two and a background fabric are all you need to make up either of these fast and easy table-runner. Decorate your own table, or to make up as lovely presents for friends and family. 10. Beginners Machine Sampler (Beg) $100.00 6 x 2 ½ hrs with Gayle Jones 9.30-12.00 Tuesday May 15 th,22 nd,29 th June 5 th,12 th & 19 th Over six weeks learn the different techniques to make up the nine blocks in this lovely Sampler Quilt. Join Gayle for some fun and learning and end up with this beautiful new quilt. 11. The blocks are large and made up of flowers from all four seasons of the year. *Appliqué experience necessary 19. All Sorts of Colours (Beg) $50.00 2 x 2 ½ hrs with Sue Drill, 9.30-12.00 Friday June 1 st & 8 th A bright fun quilt that hangs on the front awning of the shop to catch your eye as you pass. Ideal as a teen quilt for either a boy or girl. 18. Beginners Appliqué (Beg) $100.00 6 x 2 ½ hrs with Robyn Macdonald 12.30-3.00, May 30 th, June 6 th,13 th,20 th,27 th & July 4 th Join Robyn for six lessons that cover all the basics of needle turn appliqué. And finish up with a beautiful appliquéd quilt top ready to be quilted either by hand or machine. 20. Star in Heaven or Double Trouble (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Davena Watts, 9.30-3.00 Saturday June 2 nd Both quilts use trapezoids. A simple two colour quilt in Double Trouble or more, and different blocks in Star in Heaven. Choose your border fabric and pick your co-ordinates to go with that. * Pre-cutting required prior to class

A brother quilt to Gayle s, Leahs moving out quilt from last term. Great for the man in your life. 22. Star Sampler (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Elinor Milewski, 9.30-3.00 Monday June 11 th Learn to construct four different blocks, Churn Dash, Weathervane, Maple Star and Ohio Star to make this pretty sampler. Put them together with large squares and triangles and add wide borders. Increase the width of the borders if you want a larger quilt. This is a great beginners project using just 4 fabrics and learning a few modern techniques on how to make half-square triangles and flying geese. 23. A Different Irish Chain (Beg) $ 50.00 2 x 2 ½ hrs with Sue Drill 9.30-12.00 Friday June 15 th & 22 nd An Irish chain pattern with a twist. Adding half square triangles to the pattern takes it in a different direction. Just a little change but what a difference. 24. Appliqué Workshop (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Robyn Macdonald 9.30-3.00 Saturday June 16 th Join Robyn for this one day workshop and she will show you the joy of hand appliqué. The class covers needle turn appliqué, bias stems, leaves with points and the curve of flower petals.

Straight line quilting, curved stencil quilting, plus how to make a stencil fit your quilt. A darning foot is a must as you will also be freehand quilting in the afternoon. Machine able to drop the feed dogs, walking foot & darning foot (a must) * Pre-cut fabric & wadding squares are available 26. Then this is it, a really fast quilt using a feature print and four contrast colours. Sew, cut and sew again for a quilt top in no time at all. 27. Black and White Ribbons (Beg) $50.00 2 x 2 ½ hrs with Gayle Jones 9.30-12.00 Tuesday June 26 th & July 3 rd Using black & white prints, and a white background, This simple block produces two patterns. One a dark windmill and two a white tied ribbon pattern. 28. Woven Logs (Beg-Int) $50.00 PAGE 11 PAGE 11 2 x 2 ½ hrs with Sue Drill 9.30-12.00 Friday June 29 th & July 6 th A bright quilt made entirely in plain homespun. Colour placement gives this log cabin quilt it s very distinctive woven pattern. 29. Beginners Foundation Piecing (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Sue Drill, 9.30-3.00 Saturday June 30 th A nice easy block for beginners, but with long tapered points that are hard to piece but work so well for foundation piecing. The blocks when put together look like a bird of paradise or Strelitzia plant. 30. Bella Bag (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Kim Pascoe, 9.30-3.00 Monday July 2 nd A bag that works really well using a feature fabric. The Bella bag can be made in two different sizes to suit any occasion. *Pattern purchase is required for this class 31. Something Blue (Beg) $50.00 1 x 5 hrs with Judith Lubieniecki, 9.30-3.00 Saturday July 7 th This lovely quilt has been made as a wedding present therefore the name. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Judith has many layouts for this block so that all the quilts can be individual.
