COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION November 2018 Dear CTHA Members and Friends, The Board of the Coolbaugh Township Historical Association would like to thank you for your continued support. We are grateful that you share our commitment to make the Historical Association a meaningful organization. The Board was very pleased with the success of our 21 st annual Art Show in August. We were able to present an exceptional group of art pieces and so many in our community chose to visit the exhibition. Please plan to join us for the events scheduled for the next several months. Our annual holiday party in the beautifully decorated Wills Mansion will be on December 1. Also, again this year we will be placing wreathes at the three township cemeteries and the township memorial in honor of our veterans. And of course we will be celebrating the annual ice harvesting on Mill Pond #1. The dates and further details on these events are listed on the calendar page. Our annual board meeting is scheduled for January 13, 2019. Please join us and help plan for the coming year. Thank you and we hope to see you soon. Mark your calendars! Coolbaugh Township Historical Association Cordially invites you to attend the Annual Christmas Celebration Saturday, December 1, 2018 At 1p.m. at the Wills Mansion The Museum will be decorated for the holidays, musical entertainment will be provided by the Mountain Winds Ensemble. There will also be a visit from Santa, and refreshments. Township Holiday Tree lighting 3p.m. Saturdays in December The Tobyhanna Train Station will be open noon to 4pm. Stop by and get in the Christmas spirit. Jan. 26 th, 2019 (Saturday) Ice Harvest on Mill Pond #1 Starts at 9 a.m. Ice cutting, display of tools, and ice house at Lakeside Drive, Tobyhanna. The Wills Mansion will open from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. Display of ice cutting tools, ice cutting videos and pictures. Refreshments will be served.

What's Happening? The following donations were made to CTHA We would like to thank our generous donors: Coolbaugh Consolidated School plaque from about 1957 received from the McHale Family The bell from the Redemptorist Father s Retreat House received from the Coolbaugh Township Supervisors. A stone base for the bell is being constructed outside the front of the Wills Mansion. Tractor from the Vashlishan Family. This tractor was previously used to harvest ice at Warnertown. Both of the Supervisors Award winners from the 2018 CTHA Art Show have donated their works to the museum collection. Barbara Beyer - Tufted Titmouse and Lucas Rarick - Veteran s Memorial. Bill Leonard has also worked on improving the ice tong display.

Upcoming Events The Coolbaugh Township Historical Association is in the Wills Mansion, located in the Coolbaugh Township Municipal Center on Route 611 south of the Village of Tobyhanna. The Wills Mansion/Bicentennial Museum is closed December, January, and February except for special events listed. Tours can be scheduled by appointment. Inquiries: (570) 894-4207 email: cooltownhistorical@verizon.net website: cooltownhistorical.org Saturday, December 1, 2018 Annual Christmas Celebration 1p.m. - 3p.m. at the Wills Mansion Friday, December 7 12:30 pm - Wreaths for Veterans On Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, in remembrance of those who served in the Armed Forces, the Coolbaugh Township Historical Association will be placing a wreath at each of the three cemeteries in the township and at the Coolbaugh Veterans Memorial. The first wreath will be placed at the Veterans Memorial in front of the Coolbaugh Township Municipal Center, 5520 Municipal Drive in Tobyhanna at 12:30, and then at the Saint Ann s Cemetery on Prospect Street, the Spruce Grove Cemetery on Route 196, and the North-South Cemetery on Route 196. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Sunday, January 13, 2019 Annual Board of Directors meeting 2p.m Saturday, January 26, 2019 Ice Harvest on Mill Pond #1 Ice Harvest starts at 9 a.m. on Lakeside Drive in Tobyhanna. The Wills Mansion will open from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. There is no alternate date if ice cutting is not held in January due to weather. Steamtown train excursions to Tobyhanna for 2019 have been scheduled for: Saturday June 8 th Sunday July 21 st Saturday August 24 th Sunday October 6 th

This holiday season at the Wills Mansion we would like to continue the tradition of allowing you to have one of the window candles lit or to hang an ornament on a special family tree in memory or in honor of someone special to you. We ask a $5.00 donation to light a candle or hang an ornament - a card will be placed by it for all visitors to see. There will be a memorial list placed in the mansion, and it will also appear in the winter newsletter. Please fill out the form below and mail with a check to the Coolbaugh Township Historical Association (CTHA). *If you are sending a check after November 24 please call Ruth Rarick at (570)807-8859 (cell) and let her know so we are sure to have your donation recognized in time for the holiday party on Dec. 1.
