Commodore Bonnie Ortiz My service to HBYC may best be exemplified by the passion and commitment I have for the members, the organization and the Board. I began my official service as Quarter Master in 2009, advising and administering the purchase and sale of all HYBC merchandise and apparel. In this role, I focused on organization and customer-service often personally walking the merchandise to members boats to ensure satisfaction. The following year, I was honored to be elected Treasurer adding those additional responsibilities and tasks to my Quarter Master duties. In this capacity I have displayed an unwavering commitment to effectively managing all aspects of the annual budget, record keeping, financial disclosures and reporting at scheduled Board meetings. When I was elected Commodore in late 2014, I promised to focus my energies and those of the Board on maximizing the member value, and to that end the following are highlights of the Club s achievements during my current term: Knowledge of all members expectations grew as we consistently surveyed new and existing members, aligned activities to member requests, and held town halls to encourage feedback in an open and honest environment Memberships and participation in Club events expanded significantly with corporate memberships topping 14 and regular memberships topping 103. Ensured that Fun and Camaraderie remained front and center without sacrificing the requirements for a sound and secure Club infrastructure We are a financially strong organization with a dedicated team of Officers that I have been honored to work beside. Should I be elected to this critical position for a second term, I pledge to continue to support our community of interests, to expand our marketing and communications plan and to build a strong team of committed volunteers that are capable and passionate about not only sustaining, but also growing HBYC with each coming year. My professional experience as a senior executive at AT&T, a partner with the Confluence Group, a Vice President at Constella Group, LLC and currently as the Chief Operating Officer at The Partnership FCU, affords HBYC the opportunity to use my past and present business experience in this leadership role. I have successfully managed for-profit and non-profit businesses for more than 40 years, using my leadership skills to encourage full collaboration among working groups setting group goals, driving to successful growth and operational outcomes while returning value to the staff and members of each organization.
I lead by example with a passion for excellence and the discipline to bring diverse groups together into an effective and cohesive team. Nothing speaks community more than the language of friendship, and our shared experiences and love for the open sea. My husband Joe and I have been privileged to experience that sense of community from the time we brought our boat to Herrington Harbour South and for the last 3 years as local residents of North Beach. With your vote and continuing support, together we will grow and strengthen the Herring Bay Yacht Club for all members for years to come.
