PIPELINE DEFECT MAPPER Receiver Colour Display C.A.T. Survey Graph ACVG Survey Graph GIS View General: The Pipeline Defect Mapper Kit designed and developed in such a way; to precisely locate and assist in evaluating coating defects of Cathodically Protected underground pipelines, mapping the distribution of current on pipeline networks and for long distance pipeline locating. The profile current can be applied at any CP point for the measurements by rugged hand-held receiver. Results are in the form of data or graphs (plots) which can be viewed on receiver s display or during post processing at office. Recorded GPS co-ordinates help in generating an automatic GIS view after downloading to computer / laptop of pipeline section surveyed. Surveyed data can be viewed on GIS view pins with date and time stamping. Ph.: +91-120-2842077 E-mail: sales@gicgroup.co.in Website:
Overview of vlocdm System: The vlocdm (Defect Mapper) has been designed to carry-out: Pipeline location, orientation, depth measurement and GPS co-ordinates Current Attenuation Test (CAT) survey of Cathodically protected pipelines for coating faults A. C. Voltage Gradient (ACVG) survey with A-Frame to pin-point the faults precisely Records transferable to laptop / desktop for Analysis, Interpretation and GIS View The Pipeline Defect Mapper (PDM) Kit uses the latest locating and signal processing techniques to plot the current gradient of an industry standard low frequency (3Hz) profiling current. The current is typically applied at CP stations so minimizing disruption of the pipeline. The vlocdm 150W Transmitter is used to apply a signal current to the anode bed. The pipeline returns the signal, via coating faults, back to the transmitter. The transmitter is designed to be powered from CP (Cathodic Protection) stations DC supply or Mains AC supply; eliminating the need for batteries. However, as per requirement external battery source can also be used. The non-intrusive measuring device; vlocdm Receiver records the measurements along the pipeline and plots the results directly onto the colour screen of the receiver. There is no need to carry extra logging and display devices. A +/- 3M accuracy external GPS antenna is included with the standard kit supply. It links to the vlocdm Receiver via a Bluetooth radio link. The GPS ensures the user can generate real time current gradient graphs and guides the user back to a point of interest by highlighting the user position on the graph. This feature is called the Walk-Back feature. Storing the results also has the benefit of facilitating the data recording of app. 1000 logs. All the data is logged into the receiver memory which can be downloaded to a spread sheet and / or kml file format; allows the CP engineer to establish trends of coating deterioration and GIS view. The A-Frame Fault Finding Accessory is used to accurately locate the position of a coating fault. Locate centerline and line orientation; place A-Frame at every Meter; record the db signal and view the generated Signature Graph. An arrow points the user to the position of the fault whilst quickly and efficiently graphing the characteristic shape and magnitude of fault signal on the receivers display. This ensures the user minimizes the chances of misidentification. Downloading Data to a PC Latest license free application software is available through manufacturer s website. This application allows the use of the vlocdm data in standard spread sheets such as Microsoft Excel and kml file format. The application is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Connect the Receiver to the PC using a USB cable and switch on the receiver. The PC should detect that here is a USB device connected. Double click on the vlocpckit and connect receiver. Download the data and then click save as option to save as Excel File in a designated folder. It is now possible to generate a graph. Graphs are most commonly done as DM current against accumulated distance. Highlight the Accumulated distance records and then press the Ctrl key whilst highlighting the DM current column. From the Insert tab select scatter plot. And from the menu select the desired Graph. The graph will then be generated. Date can be reviewed, analyse, interprete and used for report regeration. Again click on save as option and choose kml file. If Google Earth is available on your PC (or may download first); click on saved kml file to have GIS View of surveyed pipeline section with data.
