SANP JANUARY 2012 NEWSLETTER JANUARY MONTHLY MEETING Date: Tuesday, January 31, 2012 Time: Social time 6:30pm/Meeting 7:00pm Location: Goins Auditorium, Pellissippi State Technical Community College Our program this month is acclaimed photographer and writer Richard Bernabe. He will be presenting Adventures in Light, which is a program designed to be both educational and inspirational. Based out of South Carolina, Richard works extensively in the southeastern US, but also travels across North America and overseas. If you get an opportunity check out Richard s photography at his website, www.richardbernabe.com. This will be an excellent program that you do not want to miss! BIO With thousands of publishing credits since 1998, Richard Bernabe has become one of the top outdoor photographers in the southeastern United States. His images have been licensed to magazines, advertising campaigns, calendars, and large format photography books all over the world. A partial list of his varied clients include: American Rivers, Audubon Society, Backpacker Magazine, Blue Ridge Country, Canon Global, Costa Del Mar, National Geographic Society, National Parks, Nature, Orvis Corporation, Outside, Outdoor Life, Patagonia, Rock and Ice, South Carolina Wildlife, Trail Runner Magazine, Trout Unlimited, Wildlife in North Carolina. Richard is also a writer, teacher, and adventure traveler. He pens several monthly columns on outdoor and adventure topics and conducts dozens of hands-on photography workshops each year with Mountain Trail Photo, Creative Vision, Nantahala Outdoor Center, as well as occasional classroom study programs at select local colleges and schools. Richard is also a managing partner of Mountain Trail Press and currently serves as Editor-in-Chief for Nature Photographers Online Magazine (NPN). The recipient of the 2005 National Trout Unlimited Conservation Award in Communications in the field of photography for his contributions to coldwater conservation and watershed protection, Richard also uses his photography to bring public awareness to the environment and the detrimental impact humanity often inflicts upon it. His first book, South Carolina Wonder and Light, was published by Mountain Trail Press in 2006. Richard was also one of the primary writers and executive editor of the bestselling Ultimate Guide to Digital Nature Photography in 2009. Also, Canon's 2009

corporate calendar, Portraits of Wind, exclusively featured thirteen of Richard's images of the Southeastern United States and was printed in seven languages and distributed worldwide. 2012 SALON DINNER REGISTRATION The 2012 Salon Dinner Registration Form is included at the end of this newsletter. The 2012 SANP Salon is scheduled for Friday, February 24, 2012. Please order your tickets by February 17, 2012. 2012 SALON VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Our annual SANP Salon is scheduled for February 24, 2012. Colby McLemore has graciously agreed to be the chairperson again this year. We need other members to volunteer for other duties required for the judging and the event itself. For several years now the same members (for the most part) have been involved with bringing this event to fruition. They have done an excellent job, and there is a good template already in place for the logistics of the process. I would ask each member to consider helping with this event. If you are willing to help, please contact Colby McLemore at 865-924-1455 or colby@colbysphotography.com or Kendall Chiles at 865-363-1525 or kchiles@knology.net. ROD PLANCK WORKSHOP WEEKEND SANP is pleased to announce that veteran nature photographer Rod Planck will be presenting a workshop weekend for us on Saturday and Sunday, April 14 & 15, 2012.
