The number of good reasons for buying a heat-treated floor is more than that: The most eyecatching effect of this relatively new way of processing wood is of course the darkened colour of the wear layer. But the protection against rot and fungi is also improved by the heat-treatment. We give your floor the best protection All the Modern Home products are treated with one of Tarkett s extremely strong and wear-resistant lacquers: Proteco Lacquer or Proteco Natura. Proteco Lacquer ensures that your floor will be great-looking for years. It is double hardened and one of the strongest lacquers on the market. Proteco Natura has all the great qualities of Proteco Lacquer. The difference is that with Proteco Natura you get the same soft and natural look as that of an oiled floor. Tarkett frequently carry out the Taber test on both Proteco lacquers and the results show again and again that they are amongst the strongest and most wear-proof lacquers on the market. It takes a sand-surfaced plate around 7,000 rotations to wear through a Proteco lacquer! Imagine how many times you can step on your Tarkett wooden floor without damaging it. The Taber test has since the 1930s been used as the means for measuring the wear resistance of various surface finishes. The test is made by fixing a piece of a lacquer-treated floor to a rotating metal plate. The lacquer is then exposed to a continuous wear from sand grains. The number of rotations it then takes the sandy surface to wear through the lacquer is the indicator for the strength of the lacquer. The Brinell test is a simple, but very precise way of measuring the hardness of wood. The test was developed by the Swedish engineer Johan August Brinell in connection with the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900. It is made by pressing a small steel ball against the surface of the wood with a heavy load. The Brinell value is determined by the size of the indention made in the wood. It is all about leaving as small an indention as possible as this indicates that the wood is very hard. This means: the higher the Brinell value, the harder and more durable is the wooden floor. As wood is a living material with a diverse structure shaped by many years of growth, the Brinell test is done many times for each wood species, and therefore the values in the table are average values. 10 In order to make your new wooden floor from Tarkett last for years, it will need proper care and maintenance.
