Acadia National Park Autumn Adventure 6 Day Photography Workshop October 9 - October 14, 2011 Mount Desert Island, ME

Acadia National Park - Autumn Adventure Landscape Photography Workshop - Fall 2010 WHEN Sunday October 9 - Friday October 14, 2011 e workshop begins with a welcome meeting on Wednesday evening at 7:30pm followed by the first photography field session ursday morning. It is not necessary to attend the welcome meeting if your travel arrangements preclude you from arriving in time. WHERE Seawall Motel - seawallmotel.com 566 Seawall Road (Rt 102A) Southwest Harbor, ME 04679 We will meet in the main meeting room of the motel for all workshop lectures, discussions, and other group activities. e motel is located across from the shore of the Atlantic Ocean on Mount Deserts quite side - a spectacular location. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN Photography is the language of light and emotion, and combining them is the key to creating expressive images that resonate with creativity and inspiration. On this workshop, we ll explore these ideas and more on the rocky, fog laden shores of Mount Desert Island. Enjoy world class photographic opportunities of the majestic cliffs that rise sharply above the Atlantic Ocean, as well as pristine lakes and amazing mountain top sunrises. You'll have the opportunity to experience one of America's easternmost national parks in its most dramatic season - spectacular fall colors in diverse landscapes of land, water, and light. From the first time I visited Acadia, it's been one of my favorite places to photograph because of its extraordinary glaciated mountains and lakes, magical waterfalls, streams and vast hiking trails. We ll photograph some of Acadia s iconic scenery, as well as some lesser known locations that I have discovered during my past visits. I ll share and discuss what inspires my own work extensively throughout the entire workshop. I will demonstrate my approach to capturing dramatic and expressive images, and help each participant with technical and compositional questions. e techniques that will be demonstrated in the field will be reinforced in the lectures, helping you improve while still on location. Classroom sessions is where we'll spend time learning to develop images in Adobe Lightroom, and viewing slideshows of the day s images from all students.

Each day will be divided between classroom and field sessions where we ll work on understanding and using light creatively, and how to use the tools available today to develop your personal vision. I ll share photographic techniques related to exposure, composition, filters, digital camera tips, and advanced topics including HDR, time lapse and night photography, and panoramic stitching. Classroom sessions will include reviewing and critiquing your work, discussing your photographic goals, and providing individual feedback and support. I purposely keep registration low in order to provide you with a personal, focused learning experience. Each day will be a new photographic adventure, intense and long, but rewarding as well. You will create new and exciting images, and learn to see in a whole new way. REQUIREMENTS / WHAT TO BRING Proficiency Level is workshop is designed for serious photographers, whether amateur or professional, who want to expand their photography skills and explore Acadia National Park. A digital SLR camera is highly recommended and should have a basic understanding of how to use it in manual mode.

Equipment A DSLR (digital SLR) camera is highly recommended. While film cameras are excellent for shooting, it will be impossible to develop film in time in order to review and critique your work. A tripod is also a must for low light and long exposure shooting. A laptop computer is necessary for downloading and reviewing of images. You will also need a photo-editing application such as Photoshop, Lightroom, or Aperture. e classroom sessions will utilize Lightroom for the majority of the presentations. Feel free to email with any additional questions or concerns about equipment. Clothing Because of unpredictable weather, I recommend warm clothing, hiking shoes, rain gear, and a sturdy bag to carry your gear. You should be comfortable with uneven terrain, however safety is my highest priority. LODGING AND MEALS Each student is responsible for covering the cost of accommodations and meals for the duration of the workshop. Because the Seawall Motel is our base of operations, we have reserved 8 rooms in the motel where students can stay. We suggest you book your stay at the motel as soon as you register for the worksop - let them know you are part of the workshop. Fall rates are $80.00 plus $5.60 sales tax for single or double occupancy. ey charge $10.00 for an additional guest, in case some may want to cut costs. (seawallmotel.com - 800-248-9250) When we re shooting in the area, the Seawall motel serves a continental breakfast each morning, otherwise I will suggest places where we can enjoy a meal. Bar Harbor, which is about a 25 minute drive, is a tourist seaport with a myriad of dining and shopping options. We will have time to visit and enjoy this scenic harbor on the coast of the Atlantic. *Complimentary Dinner: we ll enjoy a group dinner Sunday evening for students at one of Mount Desert s fine restaurants - reward for a all of your hard and productive work! Please email or call us for information on airport and car rental options - there are many!

Enrollment is on a first come-first serve basis, so I suggest you register asap in order to reserve your place. Fees Tuition: $849.00 (Includes complimentary dinner.
