up EZ Sheds Assembly Book the Ashbury January 19, 2008 8' x 12' Manufactured by Reynolds Building Systems, Inc. 205 Arlington Drive Greenville, PA 16125 724-646-3775 This manual is copyrighted. Under the copyright laws, this manual may not be copied, in whole or in part, without consent from Reynolds Building Systems, Inc. Copyright 2008

READ ME FIRST Thank you for purchasing our Ashbury shed kit. These instructions will construct an 8'x12' building. See back page for breakdown of material that is included in our kit. Our component kit does not include the shingles, giving you a choice of color and quality. The breakdown of the material you need to supply is listed below. Stacking the boards, according to size, will make them easier to find when needed. Do Not discard any material, no matter how small, until your building is complete. Anything leftover may have been used as packing blocking. If you encounter any problems while erecting your building, call our customer service department at 800-245-1577. If you run into a problem you cannot resolve, my home phone is 724-588-9146ET. Before you begin construction, study this assembly manual. Also, obtain a building permit and check all pertinent code regulations. Good luck with your project. Bill Rinella, President You will need to purchase. 6 Bundles roof shingles with nails. 5 Pieces roof 'drip' edge. Siding Information Siding panels have grooves cut into the face. To identify which edge we want you to use, we will refer to the edge as either the 'LAP' Edge or the Tongue Edge. Use 7d galv. nails. Space nails 9" apart. The siding is primed. You will need to apply a finish coat using latex acrylic paint. Tongue Edge LAP Edge measure from here When measurements are given for a board length, it is from the longest side. Hammer & Phillips Screwdriver Framing Square & Level Hand Saw Tool List Drill with 1/8" drill bit Measuring Tape 2-6' Step Ladders Always wear safety glasses when cutting or nailing!

Step 1 Assemble Floor 1. After removing all material from the pallet/floor, turn the pallet over. 2. Remove the 2x4-4'shipping cleats. 3. Remove the (2) two loose 2x4 floor joists. 4. Install (3) three 87" long treated floor joists, between the 48" long boards. Use 16d galv. deck nails. 5. Install an OSB flooring panel over the floor frame. Use 8d spiral deck nails, space nails 12" apart. 5/8" Flooring 2x4-87" Floor joist 2x4-48" Board 6. Repeat to assemble another floor section.

Step 1 Assemble Floor continued 7. Place the floor sections on a level surface, flooring face down. Nail the floor sections together with 16d galv. deck nails. 8. Install 72" long treated 2x4s over the floor joist to reinforce where the floor sections butt together. Install the 2x4s 12" from the outside of the floor. 2x4-72" Treated Board 12" 9. Turn floor over and level with bricks or similar material.

Step 2 Assemble Trusses Building Tip: To aid in the assembly of the trusses, temporarily screw 2x4 blocks to the back wall frame. There are short 2x4s, that may have an angle on one end, supplied in the kit for this purpose. This will trap the truss parts and insure that all the trusses will be assembled the same. Use 2-1/2" screws. 1. Temporarily lay the back wall panels on the floor. Screw 2x4 blocks along the angle side of the frame as shown below. Top Gusset 2x4 Block 2. Place two truss components together against the 2x4 blocks. 3. Secure the tops together with a wood gusset. Apply wood glue between the 2x4 boards and the gusset. Nail the gusset to the 2x4s with 6d galv. nails. Use 12 nails per gusset. Angle nail slightly so nails do not protrude through the 2x4 boards. 4. Repeat 2 through 3 to assemble (4) four more trusses. 5. Apply another wood gusset to the opposite side of the trusses. Use 7d sinkers.

Step 3 Assemble Sidewalls 1. Position 2x4-68-1/2" boards together and indicate with '' marks, where the wall studs will be located. Mark the ends that will butt together with the letters 'A' and 'B'. 68-1/2" Wall Plate 19-3/4" 24" 23-1/2" 24" A A B B 68-1/2" Wall Plate 2. Install 44" wall studs between the 2x4 plates. Assemble wall frames with 10d sinkers. 3. Install (2) two 32-1/2" and one 72" long 2x6 as tie plates across the top of the wall frame. 32-1/2" Tie Plate 32-1/2" Tie Plate 72" Tie Plate Double Studs A B 4. Square wall frame. Measure diagonally (corner to corner). The measurements will be the same when the wall is square. Install (3) three full width siding panels. Install the first siding panel with the 'LAP' edge extending 3-1/2" past the wall frame. The siding should extend 3/4" below the bottom plate. Tip: Use a 3/4" trim board as a gauge. The last panel will also extend past the wall frame. Install siding with 7d galv. nails. Space nails 9" apart. LAP Edge LAP Edge Siding Extends 3/4" Below Plate 5. Repeat to assemble another sidewall. Siding Extends 3-1/2" Beyond Frame

Step 4 Set Wall Panels Nail wall panels together using 10d sinkers. Secure panels to floor. Step 5 Layout Truss Spacing Layout sidewall plate for truss spacing. Mark the first line 19-3/4" from the inside of the rear wall. Then place more marks 24" on center. Repeat process for the opposite sidewall. Important: When marking the opposite wall, place the '' mark on the same side of the line so your trusses are parallel when they are installed. Check the width in the center of the building. The width should be 94", measuring from the outside of the 2x6s. 19-3/4" 94" Building Width 24"

Step 6 Set Trusses Install trusses over the "" marks. Toenail truss to wall plate using 10d coated nails.

Step 7 Install Roof Sheathing 1. Install the roof sheathing per the layout below. Install the sheathing flush with the 2x4 wall frames, not the siding. Use 7d sinkers, space nails 12" apart. 33" x 24" 13" x 48" 33" x 48" 13" x 72" 33" x 72" 13" x 24" 24" x 72" 24" x 48" 24" x 24" 1x3-48" Corner Trim 2. Install the 1x3-48" corner trim at the front and rear corner. Install trim flush with the siding on the front and back walls. Use 7d galv. nails. Step 8 Install 2x3 Gable overhangs 1. Install 34" long 2x3s at the top of the front and rear wall, flush with the roof sheathing. One end of each 2x3 board is marked with a blue line. Install the ends with blue lines together at the peak. 2. Install the 37" long 2x3s on the sides. Install 1x4 Boards w/ Blue Lines Together flush 2x3-37" Gable Overhang

Step 9 Install Doors & Hardware 1. Lay the left door with the trim facing up. The 2x4 frame on the left door extends past the door trim. See detail below. 2. Install 4" hinges to the left side of the door frame. To position the hinge properly, hold the rectangular plate against the frame. To keep the frame from splitting, drill 1/8" holes. 3. Install hinges to the right side of the other door. Use2" Screws Here 1x4 Gable Trim 4. Install 1x4 gable trim on the 2x3s at the front and back of the building. Install 1x4 trim with the ends with the blue line together at the peak. Left Door 1x3x72" Door Trim Install Door Latch 2x4 Frame Projects Past Door Trim 5. Install 1x3-52" corner trim on the front and back walls. 6. Tack nail 1x3x72" boards along each side of the door opening, flush with the bottom edge of the siding. Before you fasten the hinges to the door trim, temporarily prop the doors in the opening. Set the door on a piece of OSB, see detail in Step 10. Leave a space between the doors and the side trim to allow room for the doors to expand when they absorb moisture. If your door opening is out of square, the space around the doors will not be even. You can remove and reposition the side trim to make allowances for this. The side trim does not have to be flush with the frame of the door opening. You can move the trim in or out to make the door spacing equal. Adjust trim if necessary and then secure with 7d galv. nails. Secure hinges to the door trim with 2" long screws. 7. Install a 1x3x55-1/2" board across the top of the side trim. 8. Install door latch with 1-1/4" screws.

Step 10 Install Sliding Door Bolt 1. Install a sliding bolt, on the lower back of the door to secure this door in place when closed. You will need to drill a hole for the round shaft to drop into. Back of Left Door Sliding Bolt on the back of left door OSB Shim Step 11 Install Roofing Not Supplied in Kit 1. Install metal roof edging perimeter of the roof area. 2. Install shingles according to the instructions on the wrapper. If you need more detailed instructions on installing shingles, there are good publications at book stores or newsstands. Building Tip: Install ridge vent in lieu of shingles caps. Ridge vent provides ideal ventilation, preventing heat and moisture from damaging your building or its contents. Optional ridge vent provides ideal ventilation. Shingles Truss Air Space
